Manager Getting Fired
At what point can you be fired as manager? I'm currently in manager mode in a fictional league and not having a good season and the owner is a "bad dude". His current mood is 46 and I'm 4 games under .500 and 9 GB in the standings as of June 5. I made a couple of moves to make the team better. I have a bunch of stud SP prospects in double-A that I acquired, but I don't know how long I have until I get fired. Anyone know what value the owner's mood has to drop to to get fired??

I didn't even realize you could be fired. The only time I've ever failed to achieve the owner's expectations, I missed out on the playoffs on the second to last day of the season. He still offered me a contract for the next year.

I'm pretty sure you can be fired.

I've been fired. I notice it has alot to do with the mood of your owner. My current owner is a 'bad dude'. I thought after my 2nd season where I barely managed to reach .500 (had to win the last 4 games), I would have been toast. I had gone .500 the initial season as well. But he signed me again.
In another league with a similar owner, I got canned after my 1st season. It was not a very good team, mind you, but he wasn't patient.

I'm quite often surprised by the lack of progression of an owner's expectations. I led the Brewers to a 4th place finish in my first season, staying out of the cellar, as per my owner's wishes. He signed me to a 2-year deal after the season ended, but his expectations ("Don't finish last, jerk!") were the same. I would expect more owners to upgrade to "Play .500 ball" or something. If I managed to finish 4th in a 6 team division, why would an owner not raise his expectations beyond avoiding last the next season?

In my current league, I'm in my 17th season with this 'bad dude'. For the first time in memory (since the two .500 seasons), we got off to a slow start. And ZOOM, just like that, his mood plummeted down to 82 from 100. We're back in 1st place and his mood is up to 99, but he sure doesn't give me much slack.

Well, I played until the end of June last night...the most miserable month I have ever played. I have the 3rd best offense and my pitching is dead last in every category, although I have one guy that is 11-4 and and is high on the k list. When I lost my 10th in a row, I couldn't take it anymore and simmed the remaining week, watching my team lose another 4 to make it 14 in a row. I have 3 games left in the month and I'm 20 games under .500 now, and dead last out of 10 teams and the owner mood is in the 30's. I wound up making 4 trades before retiring for the night and basically got rid of my entire pitching staff except for my ace and my closer. I picked up two 4-5-star prospects at ss and 2nd and a power hitting 3rd baseman currently hitting .345. I'm hoping the 4 SP prospects I have in double-A will hurry up and mature so that I can give them a shot next year. I called up my triple-A pitchers and signed the 2 highest rating free agent MR to fill in the holes on the active roster. I'm probably guaranteed to lose 3 out of 4 until the end of the year now, but I'm going to try to avoid being fired to see all my prospects become stars and lead the team to championships.

Horror owners are the worst. I got fired once by a Horror owner even though I met his expectations (barely) and his mood was in the 60's.

Well, I got so tired of my starters giving up 5 runs in the 1st inning that I began just simming games. I finished at 60-102, 37 GB and 25 GB the next worst team!! it's the worst record I've ever had in OOTP. All my historical league teams are in first and win championships every year.
The owner's mood was at 23 when the season ended, but when it fast-forwarded to 12/15, it dropped to 9 and he fired me. I had to retire because no one offered me a contract and the game couldn't move on until I had signed a new one. I made some great off-season moves, including a 5-star prospect as the #1 draft pick and I think my team has a great shot this time. The good thing is that the owner this time around is "good man" and his requirement is not to finish last. The only suspect part again could be my pitching. I have 2 aces, but the other 2 are rookies. The lineup is very good though. |

I had the same problem with my starters in my solo...went through a long stretch (couple months in the season) where my starters were giving up 2-5 runs in the 1st inning in too many of the games I managed...I tried simming just to get out of the funk...ended up overhauling my pitching staff after a while.
