question about backup players

I'm in an on-line league that sims 5 OOTP days at a time. My problem is how OOTP is handling when my backups start games. I set my depth chart percentages at zero as I never want my backups to start a game, even when the starters are tired, unless I specifically set my depth chart otherwise. This must not be the way to accomplish that as over the last sim I had one instance where two backups started in the same game (I lost).

My question is, how can I set my depth chart (or team settings or whatever) so that my backups don't start a game (barring injury) unless I set my depth chart to greater than zero percent? Is that even possible or will OOTP simply put a backup in when a regular is "tired"?

Any info is appreciated.

As far as I know if you put in a backup for the position and put him at 0% he will start for the player if he needs a day off, or is injured.

So if I leave the backup position empty the regular will still start even if tired?

Yes, he'll be tired and he will start. But the only way you'll know that is by checking your roster before going into the game OR scrolling through the roster looking at status before you agree to the lineup. Otherwise, the player simply shows up (what is it, green?) indicating he is IN the lineup.

That's fine with me. This is an on-line league and since I'm not the Commish I can't see the lineups before every game anyway. I do check the box scores for each game which is how I noticed that my backups were starting the first place. I'll try removing the backups from the depth charts to see how that works.

Yes, removing the backups from the depth chart will make sure the starters play even when tired. This is what I do if I'm in a close pennant race or during the playoffs to ensure that my best team is on the field at nearly all times.

It was probably stated elsewhere, but setting a percentage higher than zero will generate the number of games in which the backup player will start, e.g. set at 25% and the player will start every fourth game, set at 10% the player will start every 10th game, etc... At least that's how I've seen it work and heard it explained. If the position player is tired, the setting at 0% is the only one that comes into play. That player will sub for the tired player. If I'm wrong, someone with more experience than I have will no doubt make a correction. But I think that's how it's done.

They see a little performance hit when they're tired, but they still usually perform better than my backups. Also, with the days off in between post-season series, the players are usually always rested.
