The one feature I'm most interested in for OOTP 6, but have not seen addressed is the ability to set manager tendencies for different teams in solo play like we were able to do in OOTP 4. With the ability to set each players tendencies individually in OOTP 5, I was disappointed to see the computer take over. IMHO, I think this would improve an already spectacular game a hundredfold!!!

It would be nice to have an "override" option.

That's a great point. Taking away the "human player's" ability to lock in team strategies seemed to be a small step backwards in OOTP5.

Definitely. In OOTP4, I liked to give the other teams randomly generated managers and adjusted team strategies that way. If a team had a few bad years in a row, they would get a new manager. I would at least like to have that, where if we want to we can make adjustments to the AI team strategies so we feel like they have managers.
The really sweet idea would be for OOTP to have actual managers for the AI teams to hire. |

Yes and to keep track of their W/L and have them elected into the HOF...plus when you go into HOF and select to see retired players...a right click and "put into manager pool" option would be nice

this is definitely something I would love to see. Seems to me it could be an extension of the coaching/scouting stuff that's already in the game. What's to stop an overly successful AAA coach from making it to the next level and becoming a Major's coach?
It'd be cool to have a Tony Gwynn-type player start out as a hitting coach with exceptional talent, could eventually then become a minors coach and maybe be a Major's coach by the time he's in his 50s. Would LOVE to see this option added.

This would be so much fun! This occurs in Madden football (for psx 2) and I love it. Jerry Rice is now my head coach (after being promoted from Off. Coord.

Also, it would be cool to be able to choose system strategies for player controlled teams-- like emphasis on taking pitches, for example, in both the majors and minors.

In OOTP4, I used to keep a database of managers with randomly assigned tendencies and have teams hire these managers (and fire them if they did poorly). I really enjoyed that, and wish that feature could be included in OOTP in general. Barring that, I'd love to see at least an option to return to the ways of old.

does anybody know if this tool was again added to OOTP6.
And what about your own manager career- anything new there. |

Well, as the CM/FM series has always modelled AI managers, perhaps it's something Markus might pick up from SI for OOTP7. I agree it would be a nice feature.

In fact, as they get older, players often get a "Player/Manager" clause in their contracts whereby if they get offered a shot to player-manager someplace, they get right out of their contracts and go. Their "player" aspect eventually retired, but the manager part (along with the manager history) keeps going on. Kinda cool with old Championship Manager back to go through 30 seasons and watch the old guard of Sir Alex & Co. retire after a time and players Shearer go into managing careers. Hopefully it's something that OOTP can lift from them in their association with the Football Manager family. There's an absolute crapload of things in CM/FM that would make OOTP more enjoyable. I think one of the problems with baseball is that it is so massively stat intensive that one can see it eat up a lot of database size. John |

does anyone remember in Earl Weaver, that you could answer a series of 67 or so questions that would ask about game situations and what you (or the manager you are emulating) would do in those situations? You could develop all sorts of manager personalities and have them concentrate on different things.
I'd love to see something like this for OOTP. I'd also like to see something like this for the AI GM's... maybe he's a Jim Bowden type and loves toolsy outfielders and makes crappy trades... you could create an AI-Scheurholz, an AI-Beane, an AI-Cashman, an AI-Epstein, etc, etc.... would do wonders for the solo leagues... |
