AI's Inability to Work Waivers Prevents Simulating Season

I'm playing a league starting in 1994, as the Mets. I try to simulate April, but during the month, the game stopped twice and refused to continue.

Players (Frank Viola and Don Slaught) were put on waivers and designated for assignment. However, once their 10 days expired, the AI does nothing with them, and I get the message (paraphrasing) "cannot simulate, frank viola must be...." (I apologize for not having the exact message, I am at work and the forum refused to let me post last night). I have to fix it manually.

The team (Boston) has already taken Viola's spot on the 40 man, and I can't put him in the minors without being on the 40 man, so I just release the player. However, I shouldn't have to do this FOR the AI. Even if there is a workaround (which I would love to hear), this appears to be an obvious bug that someone MUST have run across before. I was playing the game for 45 minutes when I found it, and all I did was make a ton of trades and start simming. Anyone have an idea?

Addition: Here's a screen cap. This is the 8th player I have had to deal before I can advance to the next day. Houston is a computer controlled team. This is ridiculous; this must be a very common bug, giving that I have run into it numerous times in my first 3 hours of OOTP6. Markus, anybody .... what is the deal?

Are you a 100% certain that the teams in question are set to Computer and not Human manager?

Although I have not encountered this problem yet, many people have - computer-AI controlled teams not properly handling some DFA players. It definitely seems to be a bug in the game, but I haven't heard anything about possible workarounds or fixes.

yeh this has happened

This has happened to several teams also.
Situ is where team has placed a guy on waivers/to be re-assigned and after SIM is done - and theyare eligible to be moved - i get the message saying that "...so and so needs to be released or whatever, and the game cannot advance to next day"...so it's re-do time for the league --
what am i missing....
it's humanowned team but simming 2 weeks or so per SIM period. So where have i gone wrong ?

JimiP, you've found your problem. If it's a human owned team, you are actually going to have to do something with that player. Once DFA time or Waivers time runs out, the player can't just sit there.

Wally Backman, you have to go into the league setup and click 'Run computer manager on all teams" and "Set all teams to CPU". Then go to your team and set it to "Human Manager". You should be able to avoid a recurrence.

I've seen this in the past but now I only see it with human controlled teams, so it's obvious that I have to do something each time for those teams.

If you have "Allow computer teams to sign and release players" (in League Setup / Misc.) set to No (which is the default for historical leagues, IIRC), then you've told the AI not to release players, so you have to do it for them when someone's DFA clock runs out...

Maybe not a great choice for default settings, but there it is.

AH HA!!! That sounds like exactly what would do it. Thanks a lot. I can't believe that they would ship a game and numerous patches where playing on the default settings results in a blatant bug. Thanks again JMM

You probably have the latest version, but the setting only appears (under Financial Functions) in a historical league.

i am running my 5th historical league and I do not have that option either.

I turned the WW off since it kept stopping the sim. I have ALL computer managed teams. I just now turned it back on and will run the sim manager when it happens again and see if corrects the problem.

It is bad that a bug like this is still around, but what about simming a season and while the the all-star game is being simmed, watching the leaders stats change. Apparently your all-star game stats are saved into the regular season.

As you may notice in the image I attached, (1987) this is a historical league. I don't run into the same problem of having my sims stopped for DFA & Waivers players as the fix I stated above seems to be working for me. Maybe that was an update in removing the option and the problem? I don't know for certain. I did download 6.11 as soon as it was available.

But another interesting thing about my version is that passwords set for teams don't protect anything. So any GM could export any team he wanted. If a password is set for Commish, then and only then do the team passwords work. BUT now the only accessible page is the main roster page . No access to transactions, lineups, front office, schedules without a password. Others with OOTP6 say it should only protect the team setup page, and thus exporting teams.
