Post POLL: Best Game Concept That Has Never Been Made...

OK, so its not really a poll. But I am curious: what is the one game that you've always been looking for, been hoping for, that has yet to see the light of day?

(And please don't say a comprehensive baseball simulation).

I know I'm opening this thread for a ton of whimsical responses, but think about it, seriously.

Here are two games I've always kept an eye out for but have never seen done (or done well, anyway):

a) An engaging (i.e., more than hexes and NATO symbols) war game that effectively models the Vietnam War;

b) A college basketball sim for the PC

c) A stock market simulation game that is fun, accurate, and again, engaging.

Any other thoughts?

A good basketball sim for the computer. Jump Shot and Fast Break are decent, but they don't have much replay value.

Killebrew; if you want a free hockey game taht is very detailed, get Eastside Hockey Manager at http://eastside.peliplaneetta.net/

Its not as good as OOTP, but then again, it's free, and it's hockey

College Football Simulator!

With recruiting, boosters, fund-raising, the polls, bowl games, and a custom playbook that you'd use to call your plays from. Then you'd sim or play the game much like OOTP.

I think I'm drooling...

I am a NASCAR racing fan. While Papyrus does have a very good racing sim, I would like to manage the business side of it(dealing with sponsor contracts, paying pit crew, etc.)

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

KWhit, there already is a game like that. It is called The College Years and it's made by the same people that make Front Office Football.

I completely agree - a very high quality game alright with some features that neither FOF or OOTP have. Unfortunately the sim speed means it's almost unplayable for me. I will try it again when I get a very high end system but my laptop is new and it's still too slow there. Multiplayer ability would be an important plus too (its currently almost iumpossible to play it multiplayer), but EHM is still far and away the best hockey sim out there. I have high hopes for the future of EHM though, and I'm hoping it can be recoded using C++.

I would LOVE to see a game that involves a little yellow disembodied head with no hair. This head would run around in a maze, y'see, and he'd be eating these little pellet things. Sounds boring right? But there'd be these OTHER guys, like maybe the Fry Guys or ghosts or something, and they would chase the bodyless head around and try to make him disintegrate. But sometimes maybe the guy would find this, like, SUPER pellet, and then he could go and EAT the Fry Guy/ghost guys. Man, that would be SWEET.

<---- bodyless bald guy

you're right Joe, it is late

I know some people who say EHM sim speed sucks... but I've always found that weird.

I can sim a season (although I usually go day by day) in about an hour.

Aw well.

This game exists. It was written for Windows version 1 back in 1985, and was called Balance of Power. One of Reagan's SoS's played it. You are the US or USSR and make policy decisions, sending economic or military aid to governments or insurgents, depending on whether you want to topple or support that country's existing government. The other side then has the right to file a protest. Protests can be challenged once for free, but when the policy-maker restates the policy, the incident goes public, and Game Points, known as Prestige, come into play. Five rounds of protest/counter-protest can occur, Prestige increasing with the DefCon level; first side to blink loses that much Prestige; pushing DefCon 1 blows everyone up and everyone loses. Countries were rated by importance; some, such as Mexico or Syria, were more important (Prestigious) than, say the Congo. Over 100 countries were modeled, and they interacted, too. Insurgencies could spill over borders, and you could only send troops to a country which shared a border with one you already had troops in. You could protest allies' policies, too. Isreal might decide to support the insurgency in Syria, for instance. Russia might then send troops to prop up the Syrian government. Isreal might respond by sending troops of their own. Russians kill Isrealites, Isrealites kill Russians, and now whatcha gonna do, smart boy? Maybe you should'a nipped this thing in the bud before it got out of hand....

Search for it here, where it is now free abandonware. It comes with run-time dll's for WinVer1. Warning, though. Trying to play this game without having read the manual will, as you say, blow us all up.
