Offseason Coverage - Breaking News!
After 7 Years of service with the San Francisco Giants and a total of 19 years as a major league skipper. Manager Bruce Bochy has decided to retire from his role and step away from baseball operations after the Giants finished off an impressive 91 win season.
Bochy now 62, has been no stranger to winning after leading the Giants to the World Series and winning in 2010, 2012, and 2014. As well as a playoff berth in 2016. He had this to say. "A very few ever get a chance to play in the majors. I was lucky enough to play, and coach, with some of the best players in the history of the game. 3 world series championships, 4 playoff runs, and a chance to see guys come up through our own ranks and stay with us for almost a decade... this is an experience that so many will never have and I have been proud and lucky to have had this chance to do this myself. I am sad to see it end especially after such a great season, but there is never a good time to retire from the game. There will always be an urge, there will always be a reason, there will always be that "last chance" to make it happen, but it is time to just step back and admire, enjoy, and savor our accomplishments over the last decade. Go Giants!" Last edited by cooperthegiantscat; 07-28-2017 at 01:28 PM. |

Offseason Coverage - Breaking News!
(edit: i was on my phone and misreported the Cuetto Option so I am rewriting its own post.) well this is embarrassing. So i optioned Cueto's contract and later had a computer crash. When re-simming that same event he decided NOT toopt out of his current contract and has remained a member of the team. Will edit the story line as needed. Just like in real life Cueto is a troll LOL. //------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last edited by cooperthegiantscat; 07-29-2017 at 01:10 AM. |

Offseason Coverage - Breaking News!
Off-season Coverage - Breaking News!
News coming from the San Francisco Giants front office, rumors have it that the Giants have signed Manager Don Mattingly to a 4 year contract. Mattingly, 56, Coached the LA Dodgers from 2011-2015 qualifying for the playoffs 3 times between 2013-2015. He then switched teams and managed the Miami Marlins in 2016 and 2017 with little success with a combined record of 144-179 with a .444 winning percentage. This move hopefully will re-energize the former winning manager who has been frustrated with his previous post at Miami. He knows the Giants and how they play very well and is looking to step in and make an immediate difference. Mattingly signed with the Giants for $1,446,000/season. According to the OSA, The San Francisco Giants rank 30th of 30 teams in minor league system rating. Interview with KNBR - Giants Radio 2018 Spring Training
Hello to Black and Orange nation, thank you for joining us on this lovely, warm spring day. We are with you live from Scottsdale Stadium in lovely Scottsdale, AZ. We are back to baseball and already there is a lot of buzz around the clubhouse. Joining as always is Brian Corwin, General Manager of our beloved Giants - Brian welcome back!
Q: Brian, its been awhile since we've talked. Last time we had a discussion it was just before the playoffs and well, walk us through the end of last season! A: Sure thing, I am excited to be back and well where to start? Well it has been a busy off season. Stepping back to October, we ended the season 91-71 which was 1 game better than Washington who we ended up beating in the Wildcard game. It was a hard fought game and used a lot of arms in our rotation and bullpen which was tough going into Round 1, Game 1. Just before that Conner Gillaspie had a injury which shut him down for the playoffs and then soon after Brandon Crawford suffered a torn labrum which ended his season a little early. Those were two very important bats on the left side of the diamond that we were missing both on the field and behind the plate. We put up some good games against the Dodgers but lets face it, they had our number all season and came into the playoffs in first place. We tried very hard to pull it together but they just had more than we could handle. Q: Bruce Bochy, long time manager for the Giants retired, tell us what went into that decision and what happened after that? A: Well Boch has had a wonderful 20 year career managing including 3 World series with our Giants add to that 2 additional runs to the playoffs in 2016 and 2017. I think he was just ready to slow down and enjoy time with his family and friends after an impressive career with Major League Baseball. We will miss him but we are grateful to his service and we want to know that if he ever needs anything or wants to maybe come back to the organization in some capacity, that our door is always open. Q: Don Mattingly just happened to be available for sign soon after the skipper retired, was there any prior planning to this or is that just one of those baseball things? A: I would love to tell you that Don and I had previous conversations but honestly we didn't. He was with the Miami Marlins for the last 2 seasons and things werent working out so they let him go. We know what he is capable of having 3 consecutive playoff runs with the Dodgers prior to his stint with Miami, he knows our players, he knows how hard we play, he understands the culture, and he is a more than capable manager. It just happens to be good timing on our part. Q: We didn't see any moves from the front office during spring training. What are your plans this season? A: We looked at our options but decided to stand pat. I know the fans love big flashy signings but we are looking big picture at this time and will be working to acquire some young assets as well as cut payroll where we can. We got lots of talent at the AAA level but we are still ranked dead last in farm system quality so we have some work to do. Q: We see the return of many faces including Gorkys Hernandez, Mac Williamson, Jarrett Parker, Austin Slater, and Christian Arroryo, many fans wonder if this is the year they break out into full time starting roles? A: Well we still have D-Span and Pence in the outfield but we do have a sort of platoon setup in left field. In the infield we no longer have Nunni so we got a couple guys, Conner, Kelby, and Arroryo who can play third base as well as Orlando Calixte who can play 2B and move around the diamond if we need him too. The rosters will be finalized after spring training for sure. Well Brian, as always it has been a great conversation we look forward to further meetings this season! A: As always, I love coming down and interacting with our fans, the transparency and openness of these "fire-side chats" are the funner parts of my job. Thanks as always! Letter from Owner Larry Baer
Letter from Owner Larry Baer
Brian, You came in to a difficult role, taking a playoff ready team on a 162 game run to a very hard fought playoffs. This season we want you to improve on on what you already started. We got lots of young talent in the system, I think improving the farm system would be a good place to start. Cutting payroll is another plan I want you to start thinking about implementing. Last season your goals were as follows: Getting a team to the Playoffs - you completed that task with flying colors, taking us to Round 1 in the playoffs is nothing to be down about. Extend Hunter Pence - 4 year deal for reasonable money was a good move, he is a fan favorite around here, and even at his age he is a production machine. Acquire a Player who is Great Glove worthy - Well, we have room to improve here, I'd be ecstatic if you could get it done. Long Term - Build a World Series team by 2020 - Hey, you made it to the Playoffs, lets see if we can get the job done. I am very please with your progress so far. Let's talk about next season. Play .500 Ball Improve your "Team Runs Scored" Acquire a Great Glove Award winner Reach the World Series in the next 6 Seasons' I got nothing but faith for you in your future - keep plugging along! -Larry Baer, Owner, San Francisco Giants Last edited by cooperthegiantscat; 07-29-2017 at 01:17 PM. |

Interview with KNBR - Giants Radio - 2018 Opening Day.
Welcome back to the KNBR sports fan, we have General Manager (yes he is no longer interim!) Brian Corwin joining us. We'll be talking transactions, opening day, future plans, and much more, so please stay with us through the next hour.
Q: Brian, it was a quiet off season, fans are curious what you have in store for us? A: I've been transparent about our plans to cut payroll and acquire some minor league assets for long term building. And we haven't deviated from that goal. I think our fans will be pleasantly surprised this season. Q: Lots of new faces on the active roster this season - Tell us a little about some of the moves you made this spring. A: Sure, first of all Orlando Calixte who was an important utility player last season will be starting the season on the DL with an Oblique Strain, so we'll be going with our veteran Aaron Hill and Joe Panik at 2B We picked up the contracts of SP Tyler Beede, RP Matt Gage, RP Tyler Rogers, Dan Slania, C Tim Federowicz, CF, Steven Duggar, and CF Austin Slater - All young players who had great spring trainings. We sent down LF Jarrett Parker, LF Gorkys Hernandez, C Trevor Brown, RP Neil Ramirez, who all made roster appearances last year in the majors. We have plans in place, after the first month or two, we will look at our options to bring back some of these guys - but we are hoping that spring training was enough of a sample size to improve on last season. Q: Preseason Predictions have the team sitting at 80-82 this season which is 11 games behind last season. If it looks like the Playoffs isn't going to happen, who is on the block and at what point? A: Well I think around the All-star break we have a good idea who is struggling or who is tearing it up. I would think Samaradizja and Cueto are two players that we can get something for but both are happy hear and producing huge numbers for us so that would be a last resort. We need to improve our assets so honestly, anyone is movable, except for maybe 2-3 core players. Q: Well Brian, as always, this has been informative and a delight. Thanks for coming down. A: Thank you |
