Order ID Question

I received a question as to the sending of order IDs to get space on the OOTP server. I'm pretty sure of the answer, but I'd like it if someone who knows for certain to confirm it. I was asked that if someone sends in their order ID whether or not that takes away from their availability to play their game on two computers. My response was:

Quote:
I'm pretty sure the order ID has nothing to do with you being able to play the game on 2 computers. I think it's: 1) a check to make sure that the league is being used for the said purpose, and 2) that as many people as possible are getting a chance to be in an online league. I'll check on the boards to try to get an official answer, but I'm pretty sure this is correct.
Steve, Andreas, Henry? It still seems as though there's a lot of uncertainty about all this order ID stuff for a lot of people, including myself.

I didn't think you needed Order ID's anymore. I thought they changed it to email addresses now?

No, I think that changed awhile ago now:

Quote:
The idea to ask for email and names was possibly not really good... I cannot find most of those emails in my database, because a lot of guys have more than one email... And even the names sometimes cannot be found in the database. And even if I found them, I have to send a mail to everybody to ask for his confirmation to give his "ID" to a certain league. And then I have to wait for a reply and to assign the reply mail to that league again... No, that won't work smoothly.

We'll do it this way in the future:
Everybody who wants to set up a league on the OLS please ask your team owners to send their full name and their order ID directly to my email account andreas@ootpdevelopments.com. Let the mail's subject be something like "Order ID for XY" (where xy is the league's abbreviation).

You'll find your order ID in the receipt.txt file in your OOTP folder. Don't send it to anybody else but me.

Cheers,
Andreas

I think that is the most recent policy on the subject, but OOTP hasn't really been updating their pages on this (I've asked them to), so who knows what the policy is now.

Ooops, probably the way to go then. I knew they had some problems with people using the pretense of a league to nab ID's so changed it, not that anyone would need to worry about that with you of course.

Owner's sending them directly themselves doesn't seem like a bad option. It certainly won't affect their ability to use their ID's or have the game on more than one computer though, is just a confirmation to ensure a certain number of people in the league have "bought" the game.

That's a good point. I always figured that the biggest thing was to get more people into online leagues to get them hooked enough to buy the next version, but I'm sure there's a number of reasons.

I just wish they would lower the requirement some. From what I hear, a lot of people have difficulty meeting it. But whatever the rules are, you have to follow them.

I'll PM Steve to try to get an official response on all this.

The email address used when purchasing the game is all you need to use.

Oh! Thanks.

One more very important question though if you may.. If someone uses their e-mail address for one league, can they use it for another league as well?

Figure it this way -- hosting leagues costs money. They can offset this cost with people who pay for the game. That's probably how they have figured out how many people it takes to get your league hosted.

Using your "email or order ID" in an online league has NO EFFECT on the use of licenses in solo play. I'm not sure whom this is for but here it is.

I might as well chime in and say "Thanks Steve" too, because this concerns me as well.
