Watched the first four innings before heading to bed like a good boy, and if you put the first four innings of the second game next to the first seven innings of the first game, you'd be hard pressed to find a difference.
But go ahead, if you want to make a huge argument about how the Mets should have used Luis Severino, their only arm worth anything that would be ready for the Wild Card Series opener, in that - for the Mets - meaningless second game, I'll wait. They went to Lucchesi because in a meaningless game, you want a meaningless pitcher. I don't subscribe to the notion of "oh you wanna knock out your division rival". No one cares. The Mets' chance to meet the Barves again in the LCS are tiny (1/16 if you consider each series to be played on the way a coin toss). They have no sensical reason to pick one opponent over the other.

WIll MLBTV still be offering the replays of playoff games to subscribers after the games are over, and if so how long after?

The page says they're available 90 minutes after each game, but from personal experience this can vary a bit. Anywhere from one to two hours.

Karl Ravech has forsaken us for the Padres-Braves series. But perhaps that's for the best.

I can't decide which I hate more: Tim Kurkjian's voice or the stuff he says.
Also, Michael Kay apologized for the national telecast preempting the local announcing teams and kissed the ass of Benetti and Todd Kalas (or whomever), just the same way that Sciambi was all about how great GKR (and even Steve Gelbs) are last night. Now Boog wasn't wrong about GKR, but clearly ESPn got a ton feedback all year long about how **** their announcers are and how much people hate when their local peeps get preempted for the likes of Kay and Kurkjian. I mean, wow. It's great that they're aware of the problem, but I'd prefer it if, rather than token flattery, they simply let the local teams do the telecasts, too. At least for the first round, as the NHL does. (The NBA used to, but I think they've stopped allowing it.) Or ESPn could simply hire good announcing crews… …but one cannot expect miracles, of course. |

So, whom am I rooting for, anyhow?
The Tigers are doing at least 50% "bullpen games", which makes me twitch. OTOH, the Asstros are the Asstros. Tie-breaker: if Detroit wins, there is no Game 3 and I don't have to listen to Kay and Kurkjian tomorrow. I'm sold! Soc et tuum, Tigres! [/1968 nostalgia, via Roger Angell, RIP] |

Cripes, the announcer on KC-Baltimore is Sean McDonough, the slimy turd whom I've hated since 1990 or so. They really have a paucity of decent announcers.
Where's Dan Schulman? I'd take him over Michael Kay or McDonough and possibly even Sciambi. (Hell, I'd take Matty Vas over Kay and McD.) |

Anyone watching on the Spanish broadcasts? Way better than the English in my opinion.

Out of the twelve Wild Card Series played from 2022-2024, the home team won four of them (33%). Getting to have all three games of the series at home doesn't seem to be much of an advantage for the higher seeded team.

But in all fairness though, the rule is the replay must be conclusive & i don't see enough to say those were conclusive.

That Mets-Phillies game on Sunday was a blast to watch. I don't have a dog in the fight, so could just enjoy!

Good thing the Rays didn't make the postseason this year? I wonder how long it'll take to fix it. If it's just the roof, maybe it won't take that long. I checked and the Rays' new field isn't supposed to open until 2028.

I suppose they could just leave it as an open-air park for the next few years. A tarp has to cost less than a whole new roof.

Pretty sure I will never get this happy about scoring a run.
