Rarity 42. I intensely dislike the Save category.

Rarity 20. Kind of tough to get low with the 500 HR club.

I'm not fond of the Saves, but that's stuff the players actually did. I prefer that to voted things like GGs and SSs.
As we can see in this catch-up SUNDAY Rarity 177. Surprised I had to pay such Obvious Answer Penalties on my Fish picks, but I did myself in by remembering that I put those pics of Lee Thomas coaching for the Cards and thinking he had a cameo in Gateway City on his way out the door. Nope. MONDAY Rarity 114. No Platinum Sticks for Kenny Lofton in the Forest City, alas. Glad to use Case and Koos, but failure is still failure. TUESDAY Rarity 18. At last! I enjoyed stacking the Waners and using Bouton and his roomie, but yeah, the 500 club is fairly tricky. I think the best possible is 13 for Babe-FRobby-Sheff, but I could be wrong. |

Rarity 60. Meh.
I think I did as well as possible with the MVPs, struggled through Tampa, had two good Jays picks…and then hit a brick wall. Obvious Answer Penalty was pretty large. I've studied up, now. I'm ready for ya, Cincironto! Last edited by Amazin69; 10-04-2023 at 05:13 PM. |

Rarity 1. Long-time franchises make the stat categories a lot easier.

Catch-up, again.
Thursday's lesson was "Don't Get Cocky!" Literally. I thought that 3000-hit man Eddie "Cocky" Collins must have had a 200-hit season for his original team, but no. His Philly high was 198 in 1909; his only 200-hit season was in Chi. Apparently, during his prime seasons with the Athletics, Collins drew a pile of walks. A bit odd that he walked more often in the 1910s than in the 1920s, but apparently the cork-center ball introduced in 1911 scared the pitchers so much that they were pitching around line-drive hitters such as Collins, but when Babe Ruth showed up, all of a sudden letting Collins slice a double up the gap didn't seem quite so bad, relatively, and the pitchers started throwing him strikes again. Huh. And that's how Rarity 5 turns into 105. Feh. (Yes, I would have needed a different 30-SB man if Collins had been used for hits, but I had options there.) Friday was such a disaster I'm not even posting it. Saturday would have been nice, if I would stop thinking that just because I got a 1 for Jackie as ROY/MVP once upon a time, he's actually a rare option. Clearly I was only lucky once. Rarity 30. At least I got to use some Mets. Would have been better with either Seaver or Piazza in Jackie's spot, though. And that brings us to Sunday Hard to feel good about a 31 when people are posting scores of 1. My boycotting MLB this year meant I had no idea that Cron had returned to the Angels and so others hardly needed the recall I used there. An Obvious Answer Penalty run wild. (I mean, it was a panic guess anyhow. But if I'd known the news I would have just used Dante, I suppose.) Also, it took me so long trying to do better on that Angels/Rockies pick that the Willie "Puddin Head" Jones fan club showed up, and turned what had been a nice little .008 into a mere .02. Annoying. Rarity 2. Gonna take a break from this for a while as it's getting a bit repetitive.

Yes, repetitive. It's getting boring how often I manage to **** these up.
I thought I had previously gotten a nice, clever score by ringing up Al Simmons as an All-Star in his one year in Detrot. Nope, ruined. And then I recalled that St. Louis and Detroit were Dotel's final two stops on his long journey. Which apparently others have, too. Blech. 110. |

Been slacking on the catch-up, but it is not as if anyone else is posting
![]() TUESDAY Seven good answers, but that won't get it done. No 200 K seasons for Andy Benes, apparently. WEDNESDAY Here I imagined that I had seen stories about a banged-up Brandon Webb trying to hang on with the Yankees (a big signing gone bust), but clearly I was hallucinating. I wonder who that was. (Not Peavy, he went to both Sox, I think.) At least I got to use both Dales (I had had problems with both of them before) correctly. I'm just sad my other problems kept me from locking in my original score on Murray, but I did take a picture THURSDAY Finally an easy one. I could probably have done a little better, but I enjoyed being able to post a score of 2 in under 3 minutes. Zippity-doo-dah! |
