Post What is the popular opinion on these issues?

When considering joining online leagues, what are your thoughts on the following items?

1. Coaches - On or Off?

2. Sim frequency - Everyday or 2-3 sims (1-2 weeks worth of sims) a week?

3. Webpage design and look - Important to have a sharp website with articles?

4. Use of forum - Important to see frequent postings?

Just looking for popular opinion here. What else do you look ofr when joining a league?

My personal preferences:

Coaches: Off
Sims: 3 sims a week all one week long
Website: Not to picky, I like to see articles change farily regularily though
Forum: I think a good active forum is an important part of a succesful league

4. Use of forum - Important to see frequent postings DURING reg season

Re: What is the popular opinion on these issues?

1. Coaches - Off

2. Sim frequency - 3 sims (1 week of league time per) a week

3. Webpage design and look - clean, not flashy, lots of content

4. Use of forum - Very important to see frequent postings

Things you missed:

-a commish, and others, with good reps
-a number of seasons under the league's belt
-fictional (not real players/teams)

Hey guys! Just wondered why you all would rather have 3 sims a week rather then one sim a day? Our league sims one series per day and I love it, I have a hard time following a league that doesn't sim often, especially if it is inconsistent.

I don't think I would join a league that used scouts. The rest is negotiable for me.

Because it's nice to know that you have a day off. It's relatively easy to find a few minutes within 48 hours to download the latest update and submit your export. But if you had to do it everyday it is more likely to start feeling like a burden. Sometimes I wish there was another sim a week, but more than not I'm pleased that I don't have another one. Plus all the extra work for the commish, yikes!

I offered to sim M-F, a week each day, and the league voted almost unanimously for 3 days a week instead.

I also play in MLBr though and that league sims a M-F, a month of games every day and enjoy that too...

At first I liked the 3 days per sim, every day......but it moves slow... and you have to check on things constantly (remember, we do have lives)..

So I like about 3 weeks simed per real week (3 sims, 1 week per).....

1. Off. Having to worry about signing coaches is a pain in the a$$ for no real benefit
2. 2-3 is good
3. No, I could live with a website that just has the OOTP html, and owner list and a forum
4. Not necessarily, but most owners should visit regularly

1) I didn't think I would, but I love coaches off. They really just seem a nuisance to me.
2) I like them slow. I did like the idea of one game a day, but I know a lot of people don't like that. I don't like doing more than one week in one sim though, I think that is two fast. Two to four sims a week is about the max I could do.
3) I've noticed that I and a lot of other people are drawn to a better website. It is not necessary, but it makes it a lot more fun if the website looks sharp.
4) A easily accesible, no pop-up forum is a must for me. I really can't stand pop-ups and so if the forum had pop-ups, it would kill me. The easier it is to see new articles and the more features the better.

Simming a series (usually 3 games) works out to 3 weaks per real week.

My world revolves around the WBL (In my sig) so I base my preferences on it:

Coaches: Off
Sims: 4 sims a week all one week long (WBL)
Website: Website is a first impression for me, I like it to be good, but it isnt the be all end all
Forum: "A well informed league is a happy league, as long as I keep posting something relivant and fun to read, they have a reason to drop by"-WBL Commish

Coaches Off

3 Sims a week .. alternate 7 and 8 day sims so a DL stint is exactly 2 sims. 7 day sims stretch the DL from 15 to 21 days since the 15th day is the 1st one in the next sim.

Website .. Nice to have but even a crappy one works as long as you can find the information you need

Forum activity .. pretty important. The more active the owners, the more real the league really feels. The USBL (ran from June 99 - sometime in 2001 with HH2k and 2k1) was the best at that. I was so into that league that I was watching a MLB Yankees - Mets game and I had to wonder when DET traded Piazza to the Mets (USBL DET had Piazza).

Well, I run two leagues so I will use them both for my response.

Coaches: On with scouts all rated brilliant (PWBL), Off (OTBL)
Sims: 3 sims of seven days a week (PWBL), 3 live sims of 15 days a week (OTBL)
Website: Well, I coded them both so they both suck. Content over style and even that is not a high priority.
Forum: An extremely active forum with nearly every owner contributing by writing notes and articles about the league. Amazing level of participation. (PWBL) An extremely active forum with nearly every owner talking about just about everything other than the league. (OTBL)

Both leagues are great fun for me and the rest of the owners. They are also about as different as night and day.

Yeah, mad props to the WBL, home of the dominating Yankees. This is definitely the best league I've been in. You guys should all check it out, great league with a bunch of very active GM's.

Here's what I look for:

1. Coaches - Off - there's no good reason to use them for an online league in their present state.

2. Sim frequency - 3 sims (1-2 weeks worth of sims) a week - many of us are in multiple leagues, so it's cool if you can find leagues that sim on opposite days since you'll always have something to look at each day.

3. Webpage design and look - The website is what makes the impression on people. If the site can give the information that's easy to find, all the better. Through the use of unique articles on the front page, you can really give the league a real feel to it.

4. Use of forum - The forum is an important place to give out information to other league members or for them to post articles about their team. Most leagues will go through some ups and downs with forum activity.

so far, results on this are pretty much as expected...... similar if not the same. Makes me wonder why any leagues still use coaches? - as Sporr says, useless!
