So I cheated?

So I managed to put together a competitive team to make the playoffs with the points I earned. I made the wildcard round but, uh oh, my top 3 starters were not available for the one game playoff. So I took my playoff reward and accumulated points to buy Ohtani to start my big game.

Ohtani did not play even a third of an inning or even step on the field for my team but he was starting for my one big game playoff game. And he WON!

It just doesn't seem right for me or anyone to be able to do this just before the playoffs? There should be a minimum appearance for hitters or pitchers to be on a playoff roster or the auction should be shut down once the season ends through the World Series. Please change this in the next upgrade to OOTP20?

Also, is there a setting to rest my Ace and #2 starters for the playoffs when I am not online?

Also, I managed to take out the team with the best overall record in the LDS. Onto the LCS!

(feels so cheap, I wonder if I can buy more?)

I wouldn't say you cheated since those are the current rules, but I don't like that rule. I really hope that is something that's changed in 20, because it just doesn't feel right to me.

On the other hand Ohtani was terrible for me this year, a negative WAR with the bat, and on the mound. So glad he had success for you!

I changed Catch at the end of the regular season, And he saved my team in the DS.

It's a tough call. On the one hand, I definitely understand that it sucks to be able to swap out a guy at the last minute, but on the other hand, how much would it suck to open a pack of cards right before the playoffs, see a Trout or Bonds or DiMaggio, and not be able to use it?

This would hurt the minnows a lot. That 1000 pp for making the playoffs is a good percentage of what they earn all year, and it would suck to not be able to spend it for the big games. It also stops people from earning money from their card pulls.

Plus if you're not in the playoffs, and you can't do anything in the AH, then you'd be pretty much idle for a couple of days. A few people might wander off and not come back. I'm guessing that the dev team would want to keep their players occupied and entertained at all times, if those players should want to be occupied.

MLB has a rule regarding Sept 1 and playoff rosters. Maybe it would be hard to implement in PT but conceptually I don't think someone buying a pack Friday night and getting a great card can complain too much about having to wait until the following Monday.

If you pull those players after the regular season they should not be able to play. I used my playoff reward to buy a gold starter. There were some other high rated pitchers, but I went with Ohtani. There should be a minimum plate or pitching appearance for the playoffs.

Just a thought for OOTP20 PT.

My opinion is that if you're playing legitimate baseball and trying to win using the rules of the game, you are not cheating. This applies to anything. The stuff I've complained about IIRC is always stuff that involved either people not playing their best, or weird things using accounts that are not an internal part of the game.

We're not using MLB roster rules here (nor could we even if we wanted to). PT has its own rules designed for fun and balance, and those are what everyone plays by. The guy you were playing against could have done the same thing as you, so this is equal for everyone and no-one is being screwed over.

In the player strategy, you can use the "bench for X days" to rest them the last couple days of the season.

You are absolutely right. It is this way because it is good for the game. Everybody has the same chance. To be truthful Ohtani is pretty much a lowlevel gold and I think the only reason he is gold is because of the 2 way player and publicity. IMHO. He could not even make my Frogs bullpen as the last choice reliever. The OP was lucky with him or playing in a much less talented league than I play in. I sold Pedro Martinez 96 OVR this morning to someone that needs him. Pedro has an OVR higher than almost all my pitchers but he is not very good for an elite team either or at least mine.. The person that bought him needed him and it was good for both of us.I won 106 games and was a wildcard. This is the talent level in our league. It is fair for everyone and good for all playoff teams to have the opportunity.

I don't know how much it would hurt the minnows. I'm going to use Fire Anty as an example, since he mentioned improving catcher and it saved his team. The minnow in this case was his opponent, who was 79-84 and took him to game 5. The catcher improvement is a perfect Johnny Bench added to a 119 win roster, and the catcher saved the DS to use his words.

Whatever 1000PP the minnow could have spent isn't going to top the addition of a perfect Johnny Bench. Maybe that's not enough to have them wander off because they weren't expecting to win, but it still has to hurt.

Nothing against Fire Anty because he's playing by the rules, but that just doesn't feel like a good rule to has someone who hasn't played a single regular season game on a playoff roster.

Improve for next season, it's only a day away.

I just bought a Severino off the AH but I'm holding off until next season to actually play him. Doesn't feel right to me; the team taking the field in the playoffs should be representative of the team that got me there in the first place.

Say your #1 and #2 starters are coming up in the rotation for the last two days of the season and you're already locked in to the Wildcard game.

Without expanded September rosters, is there anything you can do to save them other than pitching your #4 and #5 starters on one or two days rest? You can't call up someone to start those games because whoever you deactivate would still need to stay there for 14 days, right?

doing a self-restriction here as well.... not that I pulled anything of significance from the packs... got a slightly better backup catcher for one team, but figured I made the post season with the current guy, he might as well get to enjoy the playoffs since he's been there the whole way....

now that they have been eliminated, I can call up the new guy

I've also done self regulating too, but I played a team so stacked they had Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens, Pedro Martinez as closers in their bullpen I guess bc they couldn't crack the AWESOME Rotation. Last I seen he was up 2 games to 1 in Sub-League Series to get to Finals. I've eventually acquired a pretty good team so it's all Dilly Dilly

It's like living in baseball heaven. I'm loving it....I just love seeing my old favorites & acquiring some of them too. Still hoping I see me a Bill Melton 1971 or 1972 card soon....I'm currently bidding on another favorite player card...hope I get it. Won't turn my team into champs but just want him in lineup

nice... just picked up Elmer Riddle (84) for my pre WW2 team (who is still in the playoffs)... but he's going to remain on the reserve roster until the season is over...

I replaced my catcher right before the wildcard game and the replacement went 0-4 so things don't always work out.

Pulled a diamond Severino in my playoff PP haul pack last night. Felt wrong to pull any of my 3.0+ WAR starters for the postseason even though he's my best pitcher. So he replaced Maeda as my SP long reliever. I haven't been able to check my team today so I'm not sure how I've done in the postseason yet (and just realized I never set my pitching staff for the postseason -_-).
