OK so how often do you cheat?
So I am 'Quick Playing' my spring training games when Jose Lopez goes down for 3 months. I say NO SIR and force quit the game. I just couldn't deal with it after losing 92 games the year before.
What awful unspeakable unsportsmanlike things do you do? 'fess up. |

The closest thing to cheating I have done is after I had won a playoff game and clicked on finish today and the game crashed without saving. Upon replaying that game, I lost, and since I thought it was BS that I had to replay a game I had already won fairly, I shut the game down after each sim until the result reflected a victory by my team(had to replay the game 3 times since the first 2 I lost)...
So that is the extent of my cheating, although I guess technically it isn't really cheating, just ensuring the original result stood instead of the replayed result, which never should have been replayed if not for a crash...

Whats the point in playing the game if your gonna cheat it?
I hear people complaining about how bad the AI is in some things. So i could only see cheating as making it too easy. |

During the inaugural draft I have, on occasion, been known to click the randomly reorder draft button until I'm in the top ten. In prior versions I would at times trade a bunch of high ranking relievers for a sure fire top ten prospect with plus power, which I believe is cheating.
Also I bet on my team, but I only bet that they will win.

"It's your game, play it your way!" ![]() The way I look at it is playing the game is like watching a movie or reading a book, but with this you can craft the story as you go along if you want. If it somehow enhances the entertainment value of it to you, why not. I could certainly see how something like a CEI to one of your favourite players could kill your interest in a league and if that's what's going to happen, why let it? Personally, other than the initial league creation I like to play as a hands-off God, but if others want to play as an interventionist God, more power to them I say. As long as it's a solo league, that is.

I guess the extent of my 'cheating' would be if I see a guy I want from somebody else's organization I'll throw together a package of 10 players to get him - while making sure I rid my minors of non-prospects in the process. On the other end of the spectrum I recently had a guy who was a legitimate superstar suffer a CEI after only 2 games on my team. But as a rule I never would force heal or unretire anybody. And the funny thing is I traded 2 very major prospects (and several guys who might develope) to get him.

Just don't do anything to upset the virtual players' union, such as doing away with the options system. They can be pretty nasty once you get them riled up.
![]() PS - As a general rule, I don't "cheat," because I find knowing I needed to do something underhanded to win takes away from the experience. However, I have unretired a couple of players in the past in my main solo league - the "house rule" is that they can't be on my team, and it was only for the express intent of reaching some career stat goal. PPS - This first came up when a pitcher retired with 298 wins, and I decided that just wasn't right.

I also have thrown a package of 10 minor league depth players to get one stud prospect, though I think I am done doing that. I've also altered a couple contracts to reflect the real life ones. This felt a bit borderline to me as I didn't do this for all players on every team, just ones on my team.
I'm toying with the idea of forcing some of the retired players to go into coaching. I would do this whether I have an opening or not, so this feels pretty above board (this year I've already filled all my openings), and I'd really like to see Omar Vizquel and Greg Maddox have a future as coaches. I altered Pablo Sandoval's defense to be better, to reflect what I thought he should be rated as. I overshot it but didn't go back into commissioners mode. Definitely "cheating" and won't happen with any player ever again. Past that, I think I play with relatively high standards. I agree with the play it your way though, and don't think there is any such thing as cheating in a solo league. |

Probably the only two instances of cheating I can think of are bringing Honus Wagner back from a CEI and playing as commissioner so that I at least have a chance at signing whoever I want without having to see those annoying "The owner says no because you don't have enough money" messages.

That's why I never play with 'Owner Sets Budget' turned on. I guess you could say I play OOTP in Owner/GM/Manager mode. |

I have never force quit a game ever, the closet i come to cheating is over ruling the computer on draft picks. I play pretty honest allowing the computer to make all my player moves as i play mainly historical and know all the players therefore have an advantage over the computer..have been really tempted though when players get a CEI. I wish we could set a number for CEI , as i feel theres still to many. But i let the computer rule...

I just unretired someone not on my team who was 36 with 6/7/7 pitching ratings (out of 1-10 scale) and just got off a 14-7 season. He came back, had another solid season, and just signed a 2-year deal with another team! I guess even he admits he's got something left

Unfortunately,I just don't have it in me to cheat.I would love to force trade myself an all-star team then go in and edit all of their ratings to the max for everything, and give them all 1$ contracts.Turning injuries off also goes without saying, can't have one of my 7 #1 starters going down with a broken toe-nail or anything like that.It may mess up my perfect season, hehe the Patriots and Dolphins have nothing on me.Then after I dominate my league for years on end,I'll make sure I come to the general forum and complain about how easy the game is.Oh yeah baby that sounds....boring.I'll stick to playing by the rules

I've had the "crashed in the playoffs syndrome" in my solo league and also forced quit. It was game 7. I also had Rogers Hornsby suffer a career ending injury at the peak of a career that would have been monsterous. I unretired him, but after the finish of that season and the next, feeling that was fair and reasonable; he sucked afterwards and I force retired him after a season and a half. I've occasionally un-CEI players in the league who are really young (<25) who have promise for other teams. They really have to have been cheated a career. I usually give them lengthy injuries in place; not on my team. I feel baddly for them. Other than that it feels dirty to go out of your way to win at "all cost"
