Hey, I recognize the look of that.
![]() One small suggestion though: you really ought to put connecting lines to better display the playoff tree. It's a bit hard to distinguish it without them. Quote:

You can change how the seeds match up. So you could do the traditional #1 vs. #8, #2 vs. #7, #3 vs. #6, and #4 vs. #5, or you could do something different like #1 vs. #5, #2 vs. #6, #3 vs. #7, and #4 vs. #8, or pretty much any other combination. I put 4- and 8-team double elimination playoffs in my proposal, but I'm guessing time and/or coding contraints have left it out for this year (though perhaps I'm wrong). That isn't necessarily bad, because it means I can add more specialty playoff scenarios to an improved proposal for OOTP 10 (and I've already got a good list of those). Quote:
For those wondering, the way I approached the proposal was to find ways to recreate the real-world playoff scenarios that have existed in the major and minor leagues as well as the NBA, NHL, and NFL. So the system I put together allowed the mimicking of almost every playoff format those leagues have used. I didn't get too far into specialty playoff scenarios (like that used in the KBO for example), but that's an area I intend to emphasize in an OOTP 10 customizable playoffs proposal. |

Now THAT would be an interesting league. Might have to try that out.

So, for example, if you had a two division league and eight teams qualifying for the playoffs, you could opt to have the top four teams in each division qualify. Or you could have the top two teams in each division and four wild cards qualify. Or you could have the two division winners and six wild cards qualify. Or you could have the top three teams from one division, the top two teams from the other division, and three wild cards qualify. Or pretty much any other combination of qualifiers that adds up to eight. The only restriction is that division winners automatically qualify; after that, it's up to you. Quote:

Byes would be really nice. Whenever you hear talk of changing baseball's playoff system you invariably hear of people who would like to give the best team or best 2 teams in the league a bye. I myself would definitely use a system where the 1st place team got a bye in each league (or division) and the #2 and #3 seeds fought it out for the right to face the #1 team.
Personally, I couldn't see wanting to use an NBA or NHL playoff system for baseball. While I'm not so big on only seeing division winners make the playoffs like hardcore traditionalists, I can definitely see where they are coming from and would want to give the first place team the reward they deserve with a bye through the first round. Otherwise you're devaluing the regular season just too much. Markus, if an easy way to implement byes comes to mind, please do add them.

Byes in baseball are horrible ideas because they would hurt both the hitting (loss of timing) and pitching (losing conditioning). In OOTP? Why not? IRL? Never.

So if you have a 3 division league and you want the 4 best records in the playoffs you could only mark the 4 wildcards and it would pick the 4 best records regardless of the divisions?

Any chance of giving us an option of having 3/4th place playoff games?
