Signup update

We have 9 spots left open on the league restart. Waiting to hear from 9 past owners on the signup for the UTBA II.

Two have replied and said they would not be joining at this time. Tosti and gocubs will be missed. I gave their team spots to new members wanting to join (Mad Bomber & Thunder).

Brooks is the only newbie on the list right now waiting to see if he gets a spot in the league.

I am glad to see you back in the saddle. Glad that everything is ok with you and your family.

It's nice seeing the UTBA stickied at the top of the page once again.

I think it would be good if the exisiting owners have the option to retain two of the fighters who were on their old rosters to start up the new league.

Count me in ...

Maybe I can move one spot up and make the playoffs this time! Good luck, all.

As much as Id love to keep a couple of my current fighters I think it would be very unfair to the newer teams.

I'm waiting for May 5th as that is the deadline I've set for the past owners in the UTBA to let me know if they are in this one (UTBA II) or not.

After we fill the league up, it will then be on to rule changes and then the draft. So I'd say we are a good 3 to 4 weeks away from starting anything.
When you say draft do you mean a honest to god 16 round draft? That will take awhile if we go that route. If we do a real draft then I say we shouldn't be able to lock down anyone from the old rosters since you'll have a decent shot at getting them anyway.

By "old rosters" do you mean anyone that you have previously had or who was on your roster when UTBA1 folded? In either case I dont really like this idea much as at some point probably around 30-40% of the fighters have been on my team(trades) and my final roster had around 8 new fighters on it that I barely even got a taste of.

I don't want to set anything in stone yet until we have our full compliment of 24 teams & everyone has a chance to have their say (rule changes, league operations, etc..).

Someone mentioned retaining 2 or 4 fighters from their roster when the league folded.

It was also mentioned that we not use any fighter currently on a roster from season 5 in the inaugural draft of the UTBA II.

Both would be easy to implement.

I think we will do a draft similar to the one when the first UTBA took off. Everybody will send me a list of fighters they would like and I'll cross off any duplicates from the respective rosters and inform the owners of what I've done by PM.

I'm open to any ideas on how we can set our new rosters up. Let the suggestions begin.

One thing we need to start talking about right now is........what are we going to do about the team cap. With the new aging and rating change that goes with it, our team cap points will be changing during the season as a fighter ages.
Mike suggested that we start the initial draft with the prime overall rating and 105 cap points before we adjust the active fighters to the beginner stage. When I adjust the fighters to beginner, a team cap will fall well below the 105 points. I like Mike's idea but I don't know what to do about the cap after we get established into a season and free agency and everything kicks in.

My suggestion was to not use any of the fighters that were on the 16-man "active" team Season 5 rosters. This does not include any fighters that had previously been on a roster but currently were either on a UTBA Minor League roster or were sitting in the waiver pool.

These excluded fighters would be made available via the Commissioner's discretion for the following season's draft in the manner that the UTBA-I drafts were run.

As for having a 16-round initial draft w/ all 24 teams, I don't think that this is feasible. I suggest that we conduct the initial draft like we did in UTBA-I. Each owner would submit a list of 16 fighters to the Commissioner IAW the the ratings point guidelines in the UTBA rules for the expansion teams: (This may have to be tweaked b/c I remember being allowed to pick 1 10- or 11-rated fighter)

EXPANSION TEAMS:

1)
Expansion teams joining the league will start with a 95 rating points cap for the first year. All expansion teams will select two fighters in each of the 8 original weight classes (HW,LHW,MW,WW,LW,FW,BW & Fly) using the following guidline for drafting their team.

2 fighters rated 9
2 fighters rated 8
2 fighters rated 7
3 fighters rated 6
3 fighters rated 5
2 fighters rated 4
2 fighters rated 3

Also, I propose that we use the initial draft-cap of 95 (prime rating) instead of 105 like we did in UTBA-I. This will allow teams a bit of wiggle room when it comes to trades during the season.

...

Back to the initial draft...

Once the lists are compiled by the Commissioner, all duplicate choices are tossed out and the team owners will be notified to make secondary choices.

This may take a while, but it worked in UTBA-I.

(Just my 2 cents)

UTBA II sign up update

Sign-ups for the league restart (UTBA II) will be taken on this thread.
There are 8 spots left to fill.

Once we have a list of owners in place........we'll fine tune & finalize the rules and start a new thread.
The old UTBA rules will be used for starters.

Rule changes on the table so far:

I) Change the current team cap system to work within the new game.
example....a fighters overall rating will change now as he advances through the different career stages.

II) Do away with the minor leagues.

III) Give 3 points for a unanimous dec. win instead of 2.

IV) Adjust (increase) the number of fights it will take a fighter to age.

V) Split the 24 teams into 4 divisions (6 teams each) and do away with the Gold/Silver Conference. Also have 4 wildcard teams in addition to the 4 division winners in the playoffs.

************************************************** *******

The Team limit for the UTBA II will be set at 24 teams Courtesy of course will be given to any owner from the original UTBA as far as the sign ups go. Original owners will be sent a PM and have one week to respond. If they do not respond within one week, their team spot will be forfeited and given to one of the new members listed below.

Any new member wanting a spot in the UTBA that does not get a spot this time around, will be placed on a waiting list in the order their sign up was received.

List of interested owners for the restart so far......

1) mh2365 - Mike

I can't remember if we did this in the original version or not, but will we be grouping the fighters in the junior weight divisions into the ones above?

Eg. junior welterweights grouped with welterweights.

Yes.
Straw's & Jr. Fly's will move up to Flyweight.
SMW to LHW
CW to HW
and all the Jr.'s up one above.

I like Mikes idea or to abolish the salary cap all together as it seems it may be hard to keep a hard cap in structure with the ratings changing so much.

The other option is to have a "soft cap" in which a cap is set before the season(average points of the 24 teams as a starting point) teams must be under this number when the season starts but after the season starts you can be over the cap number because of changing fighter ratings and trades.

I don't think the cap will be a major issue in Season 1 if we do the following:
  • Commissioner does not release names to waiver wire until after the half-way point of Season 1.
  • The waiver list will be small at first (10 or 12 fighters per weight class)
  • No fighter on the original waiver wire shall be rated over 8 (prime)
The hard cap number should not be a factor until fighters start moving to "Prime" The league can probably make it though the Season 3 draft before the cap is really in play.

Also, by not filling the waiver wire with high rated fighters, teams will not be able to load up with superstars early - every team should be equal for the most part.

The league should be allowed to mature with everyone starting at the same point. With trades and late season waiver activity, the owners should have more than enough to do before having to deal with cap management. Also it will allow the new team owners to be on an even playing field with the UTBA-I veteran owners.

Initially and also when I came in as an expansion club only the traditional 8 weight classes were used. The talent pool was later expanded to include junior classes.

Well I also think there should be at least a little bit of an edge for the teams who were orginally members of the league ... keeping two fighters would accomplish that.

I think we would have to have a hard cap based on prime ratings for the first two seasons ... then we can use their current stage ratings. Otherwise everyone would have about 24 points toward the cap at the start. Once fighters start turning prime, then you could start counting their current rating.
