Not much. Pressure is off after losing two. I'd feel better if they could have hit better on Monday with men on base.

The only "soft" part of this schedule through the end of this month is the series with Baltimore. This is not saying much, however, considering our record against the O's is 3-6 so far.

Meanwhile, other teams of significance have some, uh, desirable opponents coming up in this same stretch:

BOSTON
10 games with TB (6) and CHW (4)

CLEVELAND
6 games with TB (3) and KC (3)

DETROIT
7 games with OAK (4) and KC (3)

SEATTLE
10 games with CHW (6) and TEX (4)

With his improving power and willingness to take a walk, Cano is having almost as good a year at the plate as he did last year whilst batting .342. Add in the fact that he's on a pace to play in 40 more games than last season, and Cano is probably going to have a better year.

I'd rather have him on my team than Chase Utley.

Well, yea. But, that's just now. Utley is a better hitter than Cano.

He's four years older, too.

Wow, Hughes and Chamberlain just mowed the Indians down, 10 K's between them. Then Rivera comes on and adds one more in a three up, three down ninth inning. Very impressive.

Tonight's game was a nice glimpse of the Yankees pitching future - Hughes and Chamberlain looked excellent.

and Cano's been almost as good as Utley the last two years. If you're projecting their careers, Cano will probably have the better one.

Here's to hoping they bring Chamberlain into the starting rotation next year. He's too good to make him the heir to Rivera.

Kei Igawa...After only 4 months!

I have read in a Japanese paper that Kei Igawa finally is going on waiver, and Padres are interested in him.

Has anyone here heard about it?
Good for you guys! If it is true...

Haven't heard anything about it but I wouldn't be surprised if the Yanks just swallowed his contract and let him go.

I heard the Yankees placed him on waivers and SD claimed him as well. Nothing else tho.

Yeah, Japanese TV just showed Igawa's short interview from today.
He looked totally confused and said " I was just told last night that I had been on waiver. My agent has not called me yet, so I do not know anything..."

Poor guy, even though I think deserves it...

From that august publication, the New York Post, whose owner will soon acquire the Wall Street Journal and bring to it paparazzi pages, exciting contests, and full color comics:
Quote:
Just because the Padres claimed Kei Igawa on waivers and have until Tuesday to make a deal with the Yankees doesn't mean the Yankees are going to give up on their $46 million investment.

According to several people with knowledge of the Yankees' thinking, unless the Padres overwhelm them with prospects, Igawa isn't going to be dealt before Tuesday. The Padres are the only team he can be dealt to since they claimed him.
Meaning, it looks like the Yankees will yank him back off waivers unless they can get a good trade for him. I don't think they want to let him go altogether, eating the rest of his contract after only 2/3 of a season in addition to the negotiation fee that the paid.

All the talks about Igawa over here in Japan is that,
he used to be a pitcher who takes relatively long time between pitches, something like 15~18sec. average.
Now since he went over to the States, he looks like he is rushing to pitches, and is out of his mechanics.

He has never been a great pitcher with a killer "out pitch" over here in Japan. But I (neither a Yankee fan nor Igawa fan ) think he can be way better than what he is now, given some time to rebuild his confidence. He could never be like Hughes, but he could be an effective left handed starting pitcher who could help any team.
