So who is this Shelley Duncan kid? Did the Yankees just catch lightning in a bottle again (similar to Kevin Maas and Shane Spencer's starts) or does this guy actually have the potential to be something? The fact that he makes his ML debut at 28 can't speak very much toward his potential, but I figured I'd ask anyway

His career line entering the 2007 season was .251/.334/.468 with just 43 at bats at the AAA level. This season he put up a .295/.380/.577 line at AAA Scranton. That's easily the highest level of performance Duncan has displayed in his pro career. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/playe...y-Duncan.shtml http://firstinning.com/players/Shelley-Duncan-a/

That was my guess. However, I suppose we should wait until he actually faces ML pitching before trying to judge him
Sorry D-Rays fans (if any exist). Thanks for the info DH.

Also, too many curtain calls. Three home runs, three curtain calls. Sorry, that cheapens the idea and it also shows up the Rays to have a rookie called out like that over and over. The first time, as a welcome, sure. The last two? Embarassing. Duncan looks like a guy who strikes out a lot. MLB pitchers will "solve" him soon, in that case. |

Fingers crossed for the next series - we've got the top of the Central and you've got the bottom.

Edit: By the way, how many curtain calls has Derek Jeter gotten? I honestly can't think of one time he's been called out for a curtain call. |

I remember hearing that they want him to throw 100 pitches in a rehab start before throwing for the Yankees. That would mean at least 1 more rehab start.

I saw Duncan play twice at Scranton this year. If he was 22, I'd be really excited, but at 28, you have to wonder. but....he can hit it a long way, at least vs AAA pitching.
The yanks badly need youth, especially hitters. Andy Phillips seemed to be tehe heart of the scranton team, which is scary! If you think about it, their payroll is thru the roof, and their best pitcher (wang) and one of their better hitters (cano) makes nothing. |

Cano's been an awful long way from being one of their best hitters this season.

If your young, gifted second baseman is putting up a .295 /.337 /.453 line and he's not one of your best hitters, then offense is probably not your team's Achilles heel.

Joba Chamberlain and Ian Kennedy have both earned promotions to AAA Scranton.

Yeah, but he's been coming on, pulling up his average slowly. That takes a lot of doing at this stage of the season. |
