I know the numbers guys may not agree, but "Pops" brought something to the game you can't measure with statistics. Therefore in my book he is at the head of the list of the guys you mentioned.

I'd put myself in the Very Good but not quite HoF worthy camp.

Well there you have it. It even said on the commercial he was a Major League Super Star. And we all know everything you see on TV is true

I forgot all about that commercial. Thanks for posting the pic.

The best part is the way the hat is just perched on top of his head.

McCovey was the best hitter in baseball for four or five years. If had just retired after '77, his average would be about 6 points higher, and his stats would be looking a lot better.

I voted yes, basically for the same reasons several of the others of you mentioned. McGriff's best years came just before the recent offensive explosion, so his career totals don't have the weight that some of the sluggers who are just a little younger have.

I remember thinking McGriff looked like one of the bigger, stronger guys in baseball in the late 80s. I think he's about 6'3", maybe 210, 215. Ten years later, the Crime Dawg looked the same size, but all these other guys were absolutely ripped.

Feel free to draw your own conclusions.

No I think he was referring to the fact that McGriff did not get as tall as Richie Sexson. When he reached 6'3" he just quit growing anymore.

I saw the Tom Emanski instructional videos commercial and laughed when McGriff appeared. Therefore, he deserves a HoF spot.

Really? I thought he was implying that when he got new eyeglasses in the 90s, he was able to see more clearly.

McGriff will always be almost the definition of borderline candidate to me, but like darkhorse, I'd be happy for him if he was inducted. Certainly not the most unthinkable HOFer out there...

...heck, after this Sunday, McGriff (and most other borderline candidates) will look like a shoo-in Hall of Famer.

He deserves to be in the acting HOF for his performance in the Tom Emanski baseball instructional video commercial.
