Good progress tonight...12 teams of pitchers now updated. I think hitters will go as smoothly, but won't know 'til I get there. Am doing all the ratings revisions before I finish adding the Negro Leaguers/Japanese players to the draft.

All pitchers are updated and only 3 teams of hitters left to update. I'll release a "beta" later this week for you guys to review and probably have a real version - including added Negro League and Japanese players for the 2004 draft class and fixes that you all mention reviewing the beta - probably a week after that.
Questions and comments, as always, are appreciated. GH |

OK, the hitting ratings are adjusted. Some tweaks to make before I put out a beta, but we're definitely on target for this weekend.

Ran a 20-year sim. Things I've seen I need to address.
-- Things are hitter-heavy right now. At least part of that is due to young pitchers being forced to start for younger franchises, but it also means ratings/league totals need to be played with. Not enough walks, too many homers (the latter of which appears to be the big issue). -- Stolen base ratings. I need to look at these in more detail to get them to top accuracy. -- I am trying to find a balance between giving younger guys a boost so the younger franchises aren't winning 15 games a year, and boosting them too much so player development ends up out of whack and they get too good too quick. Right now, I think I've erred on the side of them getting too good too quick, but that's something you guys will (hopefully) let me know when you mess around with it. -- Many player ratings, which will obviously be an evolving process. -- Even on very low, LOTS of trades. I knew there would be, given the nature of the set with so many good players, lots of trade bait from lots of teams to fill their respective holes. But it's too much right now. Other observations: -- The Washington franchise (of mostly Negro League players with some Japanese players as well) won the first 3 World Series and appeared in 8 of the first 10. Appears my underrating them is not a problem The Yankees shockingly don't even make an appearance in the W.S. until 2018, but then win 2 in 4 years. -- Atlanta won 3 W.S. in a row from 2012-2014, in a move that killed me (as a Mets fan, behind ace starter Tom Seaver.) -- Pitching surprises: Joe Horlen (CHW), Charles Nagy (CLE)...one-time all-stars develop into studs, both winning multiple Pitcher of the Year honors. Neither rated exceptionally well, just a player development thing. -- Hitting surprise: John Mayberry (KC). This one was more my fault...rated too highly and becomes an offensive powerhouse. -- Longevity award: Rube Foster (WAS). Spends his whole career with Washington, winning 6 W.S. titles, 5 All-Star selections and throwing 2 no-hitters. Sure there are more things to point out, and I'll do so as I look it over more. If you have questions, feel free. Just know that, because the playerIDs get recycled, guys who retired before the 20 years were up may have been replaced and I may not be able to call up their stats. Overall I am VERY pleased, but there are certainly more tweaks needed. This project will continue to evolve, believe me. Your feedback will help determine how far it goes. Thanks again. GH |

The age modifications have been completed and things look much better.
Also, I have it statistically looking like 80s baseball as I wanted...I am not, however, trying to artificially steer it toward remaining that way as the league would progress. I just wanted it starting in an 80s type environment, and right now it looks great in that regard. I have league totals within 2% of real MLB figures for the decade, though ERAs remain a little high. The biggest reason for this is the weakness of the more recent teams, which are trotting out 20 year old starting pitchers yet to reach potential in pretty much every slot. Arizona (the Colorado, Tampa, Floria, Arizona conglomeration) has loads of potential, but for the first season getting them to play better than .300 ball will be a challenge. Other more recent teams like the Expos, Blue Jays, Mariners and Padres also struggle to start, though the Jays seem closest of the 4 to respectability. Unfortunately for them, they play in the toughest division, with the Yanks, Boston, Washington (the Negro League/Japanese team), Detroit, Cleveland and Baltimore...6 very solid franchises that have the Jays starting from a distinct disadvantage. Adding to the list of things I need to look for are pitcher roles being altered since the transfer from OOTP5. Seems a few odd relievers are sneaking into the rotations. Not a big deal. Also had to fix a problem where RHB or LHB ratings for some pitchers got transposed with TALENT ratings. This has been fixed. You can see the rosters Here Please keep in mind a) there's more to do, b) the nature of the set is such that old-time players are older and guys get progressively younger as we get to more recent times. So when Roger Clemens and Pedro Martinez are in the minors for the Red Sox to start, that's why. It's also why ratings for some old, old time guys (like Cap Anson) are well lower than their peaks...they are past their prime (Anson is 37, for example). Cy Young has been fixed, so don't be perplexed to see him in the Sox bullpen, though the first year could be his last as a starter depending on the game's player progression. As always, questions or comments are appreciated. GH |

Let us know when it's ready for download. I had your first set of all-time rosters and really liked it. This sounds even better! Keep up the good work, and keep us posted!

As of my latest revisions today, you can check out the latest sim (8 years) HERE.
Take a look...I think things look VERY good right now, though obviously still more to do, as I've mentioned before. GH P.S. - Don't mind the logos, I temporarily put the sim on the USBA page, so some logos are messed up on the page. No biggie. |

HERE
MUCH better!!! Pitchers are done better now...need some hitter revisions as well, but things look much better. Check out the players list and look up some of your faves. It's not there yet, but it's much closer than a few days ago. Interesting observation...the game will force guys into roles if it wants to use them, particularly pitchers. Roger Clemens was turned into a closer at the start because the Red Sox rotation was so deep (keep in mind, given the setup Clemens starts at age 19). My concern is that this changes his role and doesn't change him back when a starter position opens up, so he ended up a closer for his whole career. Didn't see it happen elsewhere, but it probably did. Anyway, as always, questions and comments are appreciated. GH |

The revised ratings required me to mess with league totals a bit to get things where I want them. It's interesting...league numbers are where I would like them, but the peaks in both pitching and hitting are high. League BA is .255-.260, but leaders (Ted Williams, Cobb, Hornsby, etc.) are around .365-.390. Yet pitching ERA leaders dip under 2 (Grove, Dean, Koufax, Hubbell).
I'm probably trying to get too precise for a roster that's merging eras. Younger players are performing better sooner now with ratings adjustments, giving guys who started in the 80s better chances at good careers than before. I have Japanese players in there for the draft now, but it's just the names at this point. I need to do the ratings, but probably won't hold off the beta for that. I also need to add more Negro League pitchers to the draft class as well. Again, I probably won't hold off beta for that. GH |

Latest 10-year sim is HERE
The starting rosters as of now after running computer manager on all teams can be found HERE Pop on by and give a look. I made one slight adjustment earlier today and am running another 10-year sim while at work. If those numbers are to my liking I'll release a beta version in the next couple of days. Now that I've addressed league totals and such I can get to looking at stealing and defense ratings a bit more, seeing what the conversion from OOTP5 to OOTP6 messed with and how badly. I can also add the remaining Negro League pitchers I want to and tweak the Japanese guys on the draft list to make them more accurate as well. In addition, I'm compiling a batch of new players to add to each team to make each franchise's roster even deeper. Lots more on tap, but hopefully I'll finally have something to give you guys to use in the next couple of days. Your patience is most appreciated (unless, of course, it's ambivalence ).GH |

Just caught needed revisions to the Washington (Negro League) franchise and Negro League/Japanese draftees. I needed to conduct global ratings revisions across the board, but I included Washington and the draftees when I didn't need to because the revisions applied to my formulas and the Washington franchise was done from my head because of lack of stats to evaluate them. So right now, the Washington franchise is undervalued. That will be fixed before beta release.
