There were three teams which finished 2023 with 100+ wins and four teams which finished with 100+ losses.

Is that the first time that has happened?

Of course. The question is what happens with the 8 full innings that were played.

The game still shows as suspended on the Sept. 28th scores page at MLB.com, and the standings page still shows the Mets and Marlins with 161 games played.

My, you must have short memory! Basically every full-sized season since 2019!

Note: I only looked at the expansion era with the 162-game schedule.

2002:
Yankees (103 W), A's (103 W), Barves (101 W)
Devil Rays (106 L), Tigers (106 L), Brewers (106 L), Royals (100 L)

2019:
Astros (107 W), Dodgers (106 W), Yankees (103 W), Twinkies (101 W)
Tigers (114 L), Orioles (108 L), Marlins (105 L), Royals (103 L)

2021:
Giants (107 W), Dodgers (106 W), Rays (100 W)
Orioles (110 L), Diamondbacks (110 L), Rangers (102 L), Pirates (101 L)

2022:
Dodgers (111 W), Astros (106 W), Mets (101 W), Barves (101 W)
Nationals (107 L), Athletics (102 L), Pirates (100 L), Reds (100 L)

2023:
Barves (104 W), Orioles (101 W), Dodgers (100 W)
Athletics (112 L), Royals (106 L), Rockies (103 L), White Sox (101 L)

Honorable mention goes out to 2018:
Red Sox (108 W), Astros (103 W), Yankees (100 W)
Orioles (115 L), Royals (104 L), White Sox (100 L)

There is no season with four 100+ W teams and three 100+ L teams since 1962.

I never paid that much attention to the numbers of teams in each category until this season and the race for the bottom between Oakland and Kansas City. It seemed unusual.

I stand corrected.

It's sad to see Terry Francona retire as manager of the Guardians. But it was a fun ride! It would be nice to see Sandy Alomar as our next manager.

Also, fun fact: three of the teams that lost 100+ games in 2021 are in the playoffs right now.

I was wondering something similar this weekend. Then went to baseball reference & saw it wasn't that uncommon. But I'm like you. This season I've paid more attention to baseball than I have in at least a decade if not more.

Worth noting that for all the hand-wringing over Oakland, there are two teams who have lost more games within the previous five seasons alone.

There does seem to be a new level of frequency wrt 110-loss teams, though. I thought the "glory" days of the Asstros and Scrubs tanking for draft position were supposed to be over?

Four outs into the playoffs, and I am already tired of ABC in general and Jeff Passan singing about Randy Arozarena in particular.

Rays have collected 15 outs and made four errors and that latter is a generous tally.

It's in the books now.

MLB in their infinite wisdom decided that today as if the damn Fish would have come back to Flushing *now*, let alone the already scattered Mets, who, fun fact, finished their season on Sunday.

I really like this umpire perspective camera. I'm a bit surprised MLB okayed it as it could lead to even more bitching about the umps. Or it could just say to everyone: hey, it's not as easy as many of you might think. Either way, I like it. I'd like to see it in OOTP.

The old rules are still in effect, and the game reverted to the score after 8 completed innings.

The box score for the game incorrectly attributes it to Oct, 2nd. This seems to be a shortcoming on MLB's website, as suspended games are always attributed to the date the game was started, not completed.

Pulling a tooth ain't easy. But you expect the 50 best dentists in the world to have no problems doing it.

And that's the problem w/a small percentage of these umps. I don't think their job is easy. But they are supposed to be the best, most experienced, the best trained people for the job. So I expect them to handle their assignment easily. And that small percentage doesn't.

Can't believe the Rays are out after their '84 Tigers-an start.
