The Brewers out of Mahanoy City PA played as charter members of the North Atlantic League in 1946 as an affiliation of the Boston Braves. That affiliation lasted only the single season, whereas the club itself managed to eke out a few more years of existence before both it and the league it had helped start folded in 1950. 1948 alumnus Bob Rinker played three games in the bigs.

We head next to the deep south with the Grasshoppers out of Waycross GA having their moment in the spotlight. Twas a fleeting baseball experiment in Waycross, which has had more luck producing high-quality footballers (and great actor Ossie Davis) than ballplayers over the years. This club only hung around for four seasons and had a nickname for each of them, but I went with the grasshoppers to scratch my neon green itch. I believe I have got that out of my system and then some, even doing an alt set for those special occasions when you want your team looking fashionable without being gaudy...

We're racking up the points criss-crossing the land here, with the Rogues out of Medford OR our next stop. Another short-lived franchise, they (after initially being known as the Nuggets) took their name from the nearby Rogue Valley and River and played in the Class D Far West League for its entire existence, that being from 1948 to 1951. They were a Dodgers farm club in 1948, then part of the Giants' system in '50 - with Glen Gorbous and future Pirates manager (and MLB player) Larry Shepard counted among the club's roll of honour. Medford itself has been a fertile breeding ground for talented sportspeople over the years, with Dick Fosbury arguably the best-known. Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman was also from Medford.

This will happen from time to time when on further reflection I feel one or another of these needs improvement. Just thought the yellow too predominant in the away kit for Paris, so redid the cap.

OK, so after a few relaxing days at home we are back on the move - next stop the Counts of Cleveland. No, not that Cleveland - they have a city ordnance that only allows nicknames ending in "ians" - but the one in Tennessee, not far from Chattanooga.

Another short-lived franchise, the Counts played in the Appalachian League for just three seasons: 1911, 1912 and 1913. Sadly, by the end all was in ruins and the club was moved about 150 miles northeast to Morristown, where it was known as the Jobbers. The Manufacturers, who were Cleveland's next team about a decade later, fared even worse, not even lasting two years before folding. Tough crowd indeed.

Down to the Mid-Atlantic region now and the Rangers out of Burlington NC. This franchise spanned three decades from 1942 to 72 and used a variety of nomenclature during that time, with "Rangers" being the final one used, just for that final season of its existence. The club spent almost all that time in the Carolina League, and was an Indians farm club in the late 50s / early 60s. A bunch of well-known alumni from this club, including El Tiant, Toby Harrah and Tommie Agee.
