Logo Designers: Logo #2 San Antonio Tejanos "ootpb Favorites Compilation"
LOGO DESIGNERS:
LOGO #2: SAN ANTONIO TEJANOS Nickname chosen because 55% of the citizens are of Mexican descent and the city's Spanish and Mexican heritage..."Tejanos" means "Texans"...perhaps one of Spanish descent. The Mexicans who fought with Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, Colonel Travis and friends at the Alamo were called "Tejanos". The committee thought the name would give the designers a wide range to design a unique logo. If you would like to design a logo, you have until Midnight Tuesday at 11:59 pm CST (USA) to e-mail it to jnshmoo. You may submit more than one logo...but please make them distinctly different from each other...and not just slight variations of the same logo. HIS E-MAIL ADDRESS: ootplogo at jnshmoo.us (You will have to take out the "spaces" and add the real "at" symbol...this is to cut down on spam to jnshmoo) IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE A RECEIPT CONFIRMATION OF YOUR ENTRY WITHIN 24 HOURS, CONTACT JNSHMOO BY PM (PRIVATE MESSAGE). YOU SHOULD ALSO RESEND YOUR ENTRY TO HIM. IT IS STRONGLY SUGGESTED THAT YOU GET YOUR ENTRY IN PRIOR TO THE LAST 24 HOURS OF THE ENTRY DEADLINE. Size: 150 x 150 pixels JPG FORMAT RULES: DO NOT USE ANY EXISTING PRO SPORTS LEAGUES LOGOS. A designer cannot use an already existing professional logo in the logo design and creation...it must be a new creation. The time zone is Central Standard Time in the USA...my time zone. DEADLINE TO SUBMIT YOUR LOGO: 11:59 PM CST TUESDAY For the time zone challenged, Midnight Central Time on Tuesday is: (COMPLIMENTS OF THE TIMELESS WONDER, LE GRANDE ORANGE) 9:59 p.m. Pacific on Tuesday 10:59 p.m. Mountain on Tuesday 11:59 p.m. Central on Tuesday 12:59 a.m. Eastern on Wednesday 1:59 a.m. Atlantic on Wednesday 5:59 a.m. GMT on Wednesday Last edited by Eugene Church; 01-26-2005 at 07:53 PM. |

Good thought process in selecting the names...looking forward to the rest of the cities/nicknames.

Oh man, no interesting concept comes to mind for this one either... looks like I'll be playing with text elements and placement yet again.
![]() Eugene, you may want to edit the times in your posts to the following so that they are in line with your deadline: 9:59 p.m. Pacific on Tuesday 10:59 p.m. Mountain on Tuesday 11:59 p.m. Central on Tuesday 12:59 a.m. Eastern on Wednesday 1:59 a.m. Atlantic on Wednesday 5:59 a.m. GMT on Wednesday Only a minute's difference, but it does avoid any potential for misunderstand. |

Just a friendly FYI for this round. My company will be closing down for inventory next Friday. I will not be available to make the announcement of the winners until I get home in the evening. I will post the results as soon as I can get to my computer.
Also, I will possibly be a little late with the announcement approximately once every 3 weeks or so. Unfortunately we have our sales meetings on Fridays and I may have some odds and ends to finish up prior to the 9:30 start. If I can squeeze the time in to release the results, I will, otherwise I'll post them during my lunch break.

Thanks for pointing it out. I still think it is a fine name and don't think we are restricted in picking a real team's city/nickname. In most cases we will select an original nickname for a city. It not our intention to use one that has already been used...unless it was many years ago and relatively unknown. We hope the nickname is original and unique and is associated with the city selected. I'm all over this one and almost done! This is the first logo that's been so clear to me from the start and came out exactly the way I wanted it. |

Yes the name for the second one is a tough one to come up with something, that said I have sent in three entries. Didnt do well for the first one so might as well just flood entries in
. Also while the voting was going on for logo one I was fine tuning the style that I may use for alot of these, especially #2. Here is my final version of what I should have done for logo 1.

I can't say I like the name picked (only for the same reason I'm not a fan of the name Houston Texans), but I'm definitely looking forward to any Mexican themes you guys can come up with!
For example, the real Tejanos logo might not look like a regular logo, but I like the detailed lines in it that make it look like a Mexican weave of some sort.

knuckler:
I wish you had entered the favorites competition...while there may be a "few" more skilled than you...very "few" create logos as creative and as well done as you....and nobody does as many requests as you have done over the past few years. Thanks for the info about Davy Crockett and the "Tejanos". I will add it to my post about why we selected. I am with you...there are a lot of images and figures that would go with the name...like you said...missions...Lone Star State...Texas flag...sombreros...outline of the state with a "lone star" on San Antonio...cowboys (vaqueros)...ranchers (rancheros)...stallions...trail rides...for the cattle industry. In short, the word Tejas (or Texas) is only one of many cases of mistaken namesakes that came from explorers not knowing the natives' language. Many Spanish speakers, wrongfully, think the word is related to Spanish 'tejas' (roof tiles), but in fact comes from a word (thecas, texias or teysas) the natives said to Alfonso de León when they met the first Spanish expedition. It sounded 'tejas' for the explorers. It meant 'friends' or 'hello, friends' and was a name that applied to those who weren't Apaches. There are plenty of cases like that, Yucatán being another (it actually meant 'I don't understand', and was what the natives said when the first Spaniards arrived to the peninsula and asked them where they were).
