Would this work???????????
Just realized something.... but isn't this some type of bug or way to cheat...?
If in spring training, you bring the defensive points down to zero, and spread those out how you want, and change the guys position to DH for spring training, won't he lose nothing? It just says "his defense at DH suffers" or whatever. Obviously DH isn't a defensive position. |

Its both I guess, but what amazes me is that someone would go THAT far in order to cheat in a solo style league using this game.
What do you get out of that?? |

If he has defensive ratings at any other position, you'll find his defense will suffer at those positions. This fix was introduced in a recent patch to overcome this "strategy".

There will be rules in my league saying you cannot do it. I do not run a league to win. I picked the Seattle Mariners in my 1984 league. Could be the worst team out there. Im a honest commish and would not even dream about cheating. In one bbpro league i started a few years ago I once threw the NLCS in the first year just because I didn't want owners to think I ran the league just to win. Ive been in leagues were commish's have raped other teams just so they could win. I would not dream of it. I am a different person when I run a league compared to just being an owner.

i did it once w/ matt lecroy.. his defense sucks so i didn't put points in his defense and spread the remaining points in other areas.. and it worked, he improved and now he doesn't have any fielder rating..

That's why my rules include something that basically says I can overrule everything or add a rule or whatever if I feel it's in the best interests of the league. There will ALWAYS be loopholes and you can't account for all of them in your rules. Generally, you're supposed to hope that owners won't exploit the flaws in the game, but occasionally, there are some that do. I remember almost a decade of simming ago the Yankees owner decided to take on a LOT of 1 year contracts that pushed his payroll up over 180 million because "The game won't let you go in debt more than 5 million!"
...naturally he was shocked when I corrected his finances to be in debt the exact amount that he was supposed to be that season. Point is, you shouldn't be trying to exploit the game and if you ARE a commissioner, not only is it really bad then, but you should be taking measures to try to prevent it. |

Remind me to never join any leagues you are in or add you to any leagues that I am in. Not the kind of guy I want to compete against and, quite frankly, a twisted way of looking at things. |

I'm not happy about this either. Kieran and I are too busy to try to think of new ways GMs can manipulate the game. I quit a league for this very reason.
