Any old XBLer's hanging around?
Hey guys, I've got the itch to get back into a league or two and I was wondering if there are any former XBL owners who are in leagues that they are currently enjoying.
It's both a blessing and a curse that the XBL was so well run. It was great while it lasted, but your expectations for leagues is so high that it is hard to be satisfied with other leagues. So, what leagues are you guys in right now that you feel are top notch and well run. I'd love to get in a competitive league, even if it's on a wait list. I just hate devoting time to a league and having it flame out in a season or two. What fun is it to trade for young prospects only to have the league fall apart before their out of A-ball... Thanks guys. Kevin (former owner of the XBL Tigers) |

Kevin,
I miss the XBL as well, a shame it had to shut down. I'm in two leagues right now(USBA & SO49). Both are very well run and have very little turnover. Less than one owner per season in each league. Good luck with your search. Herb XBL Braves

Former XBL Angels owner here. I'm currently in the UBL, taking over, as luck would have it, the Tigers. Somebody needs to pester Joe to start the XBL back up, huh?

My league was heavily influenced by the XBL in our inaugural (sp?) year. We started up right after XBL ended and are now in our 9th season. We have (or had) a few owners (5-10) from XBL, actually.
In fact, Joe is our Atlanta Braves owner and you might notice the website is familiar looking. www.hblbaseball.com

XBL White Sox here. Our own league, Baseball Maelstrom, is heavily patterned after the XBL that I remember. I'm also in the USBA, the New World Baseball League, and I just got into the OOL.

Hey.. Former XBL Tampa Bay/New Orleans Pellicans owner here.. I'm in the TLB, RWBL and WLB now. I also miss the XBL and have talked to Joe on several occasions about re starting it. But it doesn't look like its gonna happen.. Had a blast in that league too. Oh well.

What's most amazing to me is that the league only last a few seasons, yet it's widely thought of as one of the premiere leagues EVER in OOTP history. I totally agree that it was one of the greatest despite the short length. Pretty strange.

I'm not too up to date and don't know how many of those are still up and running, but a league back then required a great deal of work (still does now, so imagine three versions earlier). I have seen Crackerjack posting here and, if my memory serves, it started with OOTP1, which was crazy to say the least. The one thing that may surprise folks is the fact that the only fictional league that was set up with OOTP2 had to close down due to lack of interest in other than real.

wow...great to see all these XBLer's emerge...
Everyone has hit the nail on the head, the league was great because Joe worked so hard...there were some pretty innovative ideas (salary arbitration, Board of Governors, foreign player free agents, etc...) I also loved that whenever I logged on to AOL IM, there was at least three or four other owners online... I'm not much of a chatter, but I think I talked about that league with other owners more than I talked about real baseball...pretty soon the league took on a life of its own...pretty awesome. Plus, I really don't recall any yahoo owners who were obnoxious, immature, or stupid that can drag down online leagues. Kevin |

Bluejays XBL owner, the league was special because of the owners in it. They really participated and did a lot of little things to make it cool. Joe also had one of the earlier best websites for a ootp1 league. I started the Crackerjack Baseball league a season after Joe started up the XBL.
