My owner wants me to acquire a Great Glove player

I signed a former Great Glove winner to a minor league contract - apparently, that’s not what he’s looking for. Is he specifically talking about someone that won the award in the previous season?

I'm 99.9999% certain they need to be on your big league roster

As long as the player won the award, you are good - doesn't matter when. But as Darth said, he needs to be on your big league roster.

So, I promoted my minor league gold glove winner to my MLB team, and the goal for the owner turns blue. For it to count as being completed, when is that evaluated? I'm about to hit the playoffs, and there's no way I'm keeping him on the playoff roster... And once the offseason hits, I don't want him on my 40-man roster...

Stop trying to cheat your owner, he wants a gold glover on his team. I think you can leave him off the playoff roster and it still counts, but can you really live with yourself after defrauding the man who signs your paychecks?

I think that in order to count, he has to be on the major roster at the end of the last day of the season.

You can have him on your roster during the playoffs like he is a September call up and leave him there during the playoffs then DFA him after season ends

Why yes, yes I can! The cheap bastard...

So, season end would be after the last game of the World Series?

It's not like I don't already have gold glovers at SS and CF. Insisting I acquire another gold glover just seems excessive to this general manager.

The point in the offseason when your owner sets new goals. Yep, you're gonna need to string him along until then if you want the owner to be happy about that. I will say that like 90% of the time as long as you're winning games you really don't have to worry much about owner needs - either they'll fall into place as a side effect of winning or your owner will just be mildly disappointed while opening the champagne bottles.

On the topic of this, I do think some of the Owner goals need to be adjusted a little bit.

Owner wants you to improve team defense? Yeah, sure that makes sense and is a reasonable offseason goal.

Owner specifically wants you to sign a player who won a gold glove at any point in his career, even if it was years ago? Probably never been a "goal" of any owner in the entire history of professional baseball lol

No, that kind of flashy "hey, sign a guy who won a Gold Glove" is exactly what owners, especially ones who think they know more about baseball than they actually do, ask for. While I'd be all for updating that, my update would be that the Gold Glove signee has to actually start.

All of which reminds me of the owner demanding a "big-name pitcher" and getting Dave Wehrmeister as a result. Every time that quote comes up, I have to chuckle.

While I agree about the owners who think they know more about baseball than they actually do and getting a little bit too involved in roster construction, I'd still be willing to bet that specific of a request very rarely comes across IRL.

I'm sure improving team defense or even a specific positions defense gets talked about all the time, but to say "get me a gold glover, I don't care who. Heck, he coulda won the GG 8 years ago. Just get me any former gold glover and I'll be happy" just seems obnoxious to me for even the most wacky owners..... I dunno, maybe I'm wrong.

But I'm playing Colorado. My owners request may be, "dump that gold glover and give them 50 Mil to take him. That'll make me happy"

OOTP remains interesting enough and challenging enough to me without idiot owners and whiny players. Maybe I'm not very good at the game.
