Bobby Bonilla and Ken Griffey Jr. Pay Days in OOTP?
Considering that both players are continuing to get paid deferred payments by their former teams, shouldn't Bobby Bonilla be on the New York Mets getting paid $1 million each year through 2035 and shouldn't Ken Griffey Jr. be on the Cincinnati Reds getting paid $3.6 million each year through 2024?

I guess so if that's what is happening IRL. Then again, that means Trevor Bauer should be on the Dodgers books for $24-$32M this year (I've forgotten the exact amount) and there are probably others who should be getting deferred income.
For me, it's only important that the overall financials work. Not that some ancient agreement with a player long past is part of the 2023 season in OOTP. However, we all have our priorities and if this is important to you, I will respect that. |

Bonilla's (and others) deferred payments do not count against the team's current payroll. It's an expense, sure, but OOTP devs would need to code in an entirely new feature to the financials to account for deferrals. I suspect the effort isn't worth the payoff.

There are a heckuva lot more guys still getting deferred payments besides Bonilla and Griffey, which makes this kinda silly to add to OOTP since it doesn't affect payroll, as ajsomers pointed out. Bret Saberhagen, Manny Ramirez, Chris Davis and Dustin Pedroia are just a couple of players who are no longer active who are still getting paid. Heck, did any of you know that Bruce Sutter got his final check last season? He hasn't thrown a pitch since 1988, which is probably before a lot of OOTP users were born.

The deferred payment plan is almost always a cost-saver for the team, compared with paying those players that money up front, or even a fraction of that money up front.
