Random Debut --Jim St. Vrain
In my current random debut league Jim St. Vrain came into the league at the age of 18. He went on to have a hall of fame career. I real life St. Vrain only pitched once seasion in the big league, pitching in 12 games starting 11. He threw 95 innings. Did this in 1902.
St Vrain should not be importing into a random debut league at the age of 18, as he didn't pitch at major league baseball until he was 31 years old. |

Here is his career in my random debut. How can a guy that played one season of MLB at the age of 31 in 1902 import at the age of 18 in a random debut league?

This feels less like a bug and more like a feature request IMO - in random debut leagues, allow a. players to debut only at the age they actually debuted (St Vrain debuted in the majors at 31 and I thought that was there already) and b. have players retire after they’ve been in the league the same number of years as in real life.
St. Vrain in particular was a PCL star who only played in the “major leagues” for one season before he went back to where he was popular. I personally don’t see why you’d want to make a guy like that “bad” necessarily.

If St Vrain came in at his correct age, he would have had a normal random debut career, probably retiring somewhere between 35 and 40. There is no need for random debut to introduce something that limits player to the same number of years they played in real life. In fact, that isn't even doable, as modern day guys like Acuna, Soto, Jung etc would be useless. Right now, if you use recalc combinded witth the development engine things work pretty darn good. I didn't pay attention when I posted to St Vrain's age when I posted in the historical forum. I simply looked at a guy that only pitched 12 career games. As for St Vrains PCL years, I don't give a hoot. As I said in the other thread, I don't mind guys having better(longer) careers than they did in real life. I just think hall of fame for a guy like this is a little over the top. That being said, it's a bug. So makers of the game, unless it's an option that we can turn off, do not limit players in random debut leagues to their actual number of years played. Just see if the bug can be fixed. As mentioned in the other thread, his birthday was off in the database. Fixed, though obviously the new db will next ship with OOTP25. Good catch. I play RD a lot too and he makes my HOF often. He and Britt Burns of the early 80's Chicago White Sox are two names I know. I too play those games with recalc on and development on (necessary for aging) absent a hard Retire-According-to-History.
