Disappointed and a little upset

My first OOTP purchase was number two over 20 years ago. It seems that since I had to replace my old email address a few months ago and my old one is defunct I cannot receive my bonus packs for Perfect Team, which I have played since the beginning. The company does not have a plan to solve this problem and apparantly there will not be one forthcoming. I received this information in an email this evening. I am frustrated because this seems like an issue the company should have been out in front of. I have been told the reason for the problem and I am not happy with how they chose to fix it.

I am sorry, but due to security reasons, we cannot verify accounts without the owner actually having access to the email that was used to register the account. If we did, it would open all doors for malicious behaviour by people trying to hijack existing accounts. We cannot allow that.

I contact OOTP and tell them I no longer have the Email account I had in the past. Since they can't SEND me an Email to confirm I once owned that Email address, they have to accept my word.


Everybody and anybody could do the same thing and end up getting bonus packs for NOT being past customers.

since we can now sign into the challenge mode site to see the email used for that ID; surely there is a way to add an "update email" link to that site so users can change the email attached to the ID?

It's not really so much about the bonus packs, as it is about the possibility of people stealing and hijacking other people's accounts by claiming that, yes, it's really their email and their username, but they just don't have access now.

Imagine trying to convince Google or Microsoft or any other big company that you own an account on their systems, but you can't even return their confirmation messages.

They're not going to let you get access if you can't even send a message from the email of record or return a message from them sent to it. At least not without weeks or months of making you jump through more complex hoops to confirm things than we have the ability to demand.

We just can't allow free access in a similar situation either, there's just too much opportunity there for bad people to do bad things.

I don't know if this is a dumb suggestion (and would be very time-consuming for support who I'm sure are overworked as-is), but could you ask the player to set a lineup (in the old account) with Players X/Y/Z, then confirm if that was done?

Sorry if I'm speaking out of hand here, just trying to spitball ideas (though as I say I'm sure y'all have way better ideas and a sense of what is feasible).

If I am the only one with this issue then I understand the company's reluctance to make a special effort. If it is a larger problem then I think it should be addressed. Moving and leaving my old IP has been a nightmare. In this case I was hoping that the company would be a little more flexible. At least my Perfect Team experience will be a little more challenging without those extra packs. Well I am off to register as a new user.

I certainly understand your frustration. COVID caused me to shut down my business, and my email address linked to my PT team that went with it. I wish there was a manageable work around for everyone involved instead of people losing their loyalty rewards.

Another issue is if you already created your 3 accounts, and can't access the email address on any of those accounts, there's no way to create a new account. Why? Because you've already reached the max for the license.

Markus, you are the leader of the company that mailed me not 1 but 2 CD's to replace my broken CD Rom from OOTP 1 based off of nothing but an email explaining the situation and the fact that at the time I was like 15 and the 20 bucks was like millions to me. Your team told me to give the other one to a friend and spread the word.

Surely you can handle something like this on a case by case basis. You and your team made me a customer for life not because you had the best baseball game on the market, which you did (at the time the competition was FPS, Diamond Mind, stratomatic's terrible attempt, and later PureSim, ) but because of simply outstanding customer service. There is a middle ground here.

You aren't Microsoft, which is WHY we support you. Comparing your business practices to a company like them isn't the effective argument that you believe it is. You can clearly see the guy has a forum account from 2002. You could have spent the same amount of time it took to compare yourself to the shadiest company in the business on doing a manual verification that he is who he says he is and just fix this. Just change the database entry.....let's not pretend this is some technical impossibility to resolve because Microsoft wouldn't do it.

Maybe they should stop giving away Bonus packs. Let everyone start out on an even playing field. We all know that the long time players are the ones using their 2 extra accounts to manipulate the Market and selling off all of those extra cards at crazy prices. Any new player is at the mercy of pure dumb luck with their 6 starting packs or they have to "pay to win" by buying extra packs. No chance of completing missions by buying cards in the Market due to the price gouging and market manipulation.

You think the two packs are making that big of a difference? Do you understand just how much the whales drop on this game annually? Those 2 packs aren't going to compare with the guy ripping 200 packs a week.

This probably isn't the time or place to talk about this but here goes. I play the game while not buying packs or playing the market. Playing in Iron and Bronze leagues is fine with me. When I reached Silver I was really happy. The bottom line is for players who don't have the income to buy packs, or the patience to play the market, those bonus packs would have been nice. I remember how happy I was when I got a Diamond card and I was absolutely giddy when I got my one Perfect card for the entire year. Look, playing Perfect Team was a pleasant hour or two once a week, but I live to play OOTP. Sorry for a bunch of extraneous information but I am frustrated that a fix hasn't been found for the email problem.

I have used 3 accounts since PT19. Can I transfer one to someone so they can get their rewards that are lost due to this sudden change?
