Looking for the worst team available

That's right...I'm looking for as bad a team as I can possibly find...

I've played about a calander year's worth of OOTP online in various leagues: was a founding member of the JBL, just wrapped up my second season in the ORB (took over an awful Angels team and took them to the LCS), and am about to start my second season in the RWBL (umm...well I took over a really good team there, so I don't have a relevant comment).

I'm an active owner, a fairly active poster, and am on IM a good chunk of the day...there is also a strong chance I will have an assistant GM ready to come aboard with me. I'm looking for a real challange, let me know if you have a hopeless franchise available (only stipulation: I will never play as the Yankees, bad or otherwise).

Might want to check with the commish of the UBN, Tom Hickman, about the availability of the Baltimore Orioles. Just use the link in my signature.

One guy had taken the team, but switched to another team that had suddenly opened when he realized how bad the Orioles were.

Hey, you saw the state of the ORB Angels when Drew and I took them over...when your teams depth chart is so emtpy the AI has Reggie Jackson at shortstop things are BAD.

I wouldn't mind redirecting the thread a little bit, who here thinks they already HAVE the worst team in online play? (keep the league offers coming though, so far I've seen some below 500 teams, but nothing hopeless)

Online leagues need more people like smolen! I haven't had a truly awful team yet, but I wonder if I wouldn't get disinterested with them quick. Good on those who look at it as just a different kind of challenge.

Owning a team that is terrible must be no fun...but taking over a team that is a mess and trying to turn them into a winner is a great deal of fun. It involves alot of trading, and searching for value out of marginal players. I can't tell you how many players on my Angels roster (that went fromt the celler to the LCS) were languishing on benches and in AAA. Juggling lineups Bobby V style to try to milk all you can out of a lineup keeps the long season amusing. And in the long run it leads to a crop of drafted players. I reccomend giving it a try...

You can also always use a little bit of luck from the player development department...

By the way, just for info, UBN Baltimore has the 3rd worst record in the majors, and the 21st ranked minors system out of 30, and no prospects in the top 50.

The Angels did have lots of injury problems in '83 when you took them over, but they did win the World Series in '82 so they were far from a total disaster...

I'd like to nominate the 1984 ORB Toronto Blue Jays as worst online team. We finished 52-110, 53 games out of first, worst record in the ORB.

It won't last long though, with Eric Davis, Jeff Robinson, and Cecil Fielder joining up with Lloyd Moseby and Nick Esasky as we begin the slow painful process of turning this thing around....

yes, it's fun to have winning and contending teams (trust me I'm having a ball dominating the Landis in the UBL, and i'm quite enjoying leading the Marines to what will be their 4th playoff appearance in the last 6 seasons... but it's also an extreme blast to take a god-awful team and just do your best with the long range plans of turning it into a winner... and though I haven't reaped any success from my long term rebuilding in RWBL and ORB it will be that much sweeter when I do...

However, make sure a league is solid when you take over that crappy team, you want to be sure that the league will still be around for as long as it will take you to turn that team into a winner...

Injury problems weren't it entierly...the former owner had abonded them before the end of that season. So noone was resigned, no FA were picked up, and several players had retired. We took the team over at the end of an 11 game losing streak. With no SS, 2B, no DH, and only 2 SPs..and pretty much an empty depth chart.

True, I actually think we found a replacement owner for the Playoffs and then he disappeared as well. No one ran the team for the '83 off-season to be sure. The pre-Smolen/Dr.Drew '83 Angles may be the best example of the proper way to totally destroy a World Series winner in less than half a sesaon.

I think the Red Sox in my league once finished with 24 wins... might have been 27. Either way, that has to be the record.

Currently the NABA's Cancun Riptide are 38-99 and holding down last place in the league's SL Pacific division, 38.5 games out of first.

And this is with an owner that's been fairly attentive this year; he's basically scrapping the team and starting from scratch though.

Join Tusso's league. No matter what team you choose, they won't hold up to his team(s), before OR after the ratings adjustments

Agreed! I'm surprised more people don't want to start out with a crap team. I should think the rebuilding process would be a great deal of fun in an online league setting.

I'm in two leagues where I'm in rebuilding mode, or just past it, with my teams.
