Early Era Explorers - The Collection

Thought I'd share my collection as I'm now nearing the end of it. Perfect Team separates cards by years, so after realizing that all cards pre-1940 had a special drawing, I decided to collect these types of cards.

Dubbed "Cartoon Cards", there's I believe 258 in existence in PT. Maybe a few more after the special edition collections. As of today I have 231 of these cards, and realistically the odds I add more are slim (maybe 1-2).

If you're in a perfect league you might run into the Early Era Explorers. Our pre 1940 team is a mix of iron/bronze/silver/gold/diamond/perfect. We are missing a few crown jewels (100 Cy, 100 Walsh, 100 Walter Johnson, 98 Waite Hoyt, 98 Cap Anson), but most are here and accounted for.

Has anyone else stuck to just one theme? I know there's a lot of 'team themes' out there but am curious what else is in existence.

That's amazing, love the theme

All of mine are 'theme teams', two of them All-AL and All-NL, then Bob's Milwaukee All-Stars - Brewers, Braves, and anyone who's played there

The all-AL/NL is a unique idea! Similar to fantasy baseball.

Thanks! Yeah it becomes 2nd nature after a while. Sometimes I have to research really old teams to see whether an old player qualifies or not

I've got an all 1900s team; a pre-1951 team, and a Great Lakes team (Mil-Chi*2-Det-Cle-Tor).

Great Lakes is a good one

1900s as in 1900-1909?

I may switch my Bees to this type of theme when they get promoted to Perfect and become a doormat, just for fun. I'm one card short of completing the Brewers LIVE collection (a bloody silver which never seems to be in the AH). Plus I have a Diamond Aaron.

Have you completed the Brewers LIVE collection mission yet? Or the Harvey's Wallbanger mission (I don't have a lot of cards for this but may go for this next)?

UK is far from Milwaukee. Did you grow up here? I'm in Mequon, a northern suburb...

Wow. What a great collection. I would love to do something like this. My Barnstormers comprise much of the Negro League card set (19, plus a special card for completing the collection mission) and pre-1947 (integration year) cards. Fun team to build!

I've been drafting deadball leagues (solo play), randomly shuffling players from only that era in OOTP XX. Great fun!

I’m way off on the missions, heh, though the Live Milwaukee has more than others.

No I’m from the UK, I was getting into baseball gradually (maybe around 2014) and I listened to a radio game with Bob Uecker on and loved it, watched a game shortly after at Miller Park, and that was that, became a Brewers fan!

Which silver Live are you missing? I’ll see if I have it.

Oddly enough, I just noticed I'm currently in a Gold league playing against another team with the same old-time card theme; they're called the Waxsaw Wayvern.

I’ll have a look, don’t think I have that though.

Brewers are a great team right now, though funnily enough I probably watched/listened to more games in 2014\2015 than last season, heh

Waxsaw has a solid team.... my old timey bunch has gone up against them in a few different seasons in the past (got a lifetime 23-22 record against 'em).

my group is nowhere near the complete collection of the OP, but we're on the slow-n-steady path to gathering as many pre-ww2 players as we can get.

Man that end of the year stretch last season to catch and then beat the Cubs, Game 163, for the division title was crazy. Yelich played like DiMaggio.

Thanks for looking for that card either way!!!

Can you share their roster with a screenshot? Curious who they have.

My Bees are cruising right now with Travis "Stonewall" Jackson at short (all position players are high defense). So do I insert Yount and sacrifice defense for a little more power? Decisions, decisions... I also have Grandal and Moustakas on reserve roster. I'm afraid to upset the apple cart...
