Oakridge Hawks - Season 2 (2029) - B268 Bronze - AC East Division

Well, here we go again. Fantastic 1st season, and then the bottom fell out in the playoffs.

But... I'm excited about the team that takes the field for 2029 !!

Let's see if we can do it right this time

Great start for the Hawks, posting a 22-5 record, and a 3.5 game lead in the AC East. That projects to a 132-30 season - but I won't hold my breath on that one... Oh, and Mike Trout (100) won Batter of the Month!

Current PPs = 2448

Mid-May, 2029

Mid-month I was sitting on 3000+ PPs, and couldn't make up my mind whether to open 3 card packs - or accumulate the PPs until the end of the season and try to pick up someone in the Auction House. The Auction House leans much more toward getting someone that you can actually use, but opening card packs brings me back to my childhood.

I quickly estimated what I would have by the end of the season, and it totally about 12-15,000 perfect points if all went well. Looking over what was available for that amount guaranteed a Diamond player - but not much else after that.

After a day or two of rolling that over, I decided to roll the dice and see what 3 card packs would bring me.

Although I would have been happy with a Diamond player I could use, I actually pulled a 1972 Johnny Bench 100 Historical All-Star card!!! He could immediately take over catching duties with Wilson Ramoes (83) as my backup. In addition, I pulled CF Brandon Nimmo (84) who could immediately backup all three OF positions.

Certainly can't complain, and I should get enough PPs to open at least 9 more packs before the end of the season.

Oakridge recorded a 21-8 month, and currently holds 1st Place by 4.5 games. To sweeten the pot a bit, Early Wynn won the Pitcher of the Month award.

My mid-month pickup, Johhny Bench (100) however, "so far" hasn't added any punch to the lineup (.220/.273/.390) - but, since we are 11-3 since he joined the team, I can't say much at this point - AND - it's difficult to believe he won't improve.

I have 2028 PPS and waiting to get 3000 before I try my next card pack purchase.

The Hawks posted a 19-7 month and lead the division by 10 games. SS Francisco Lindor leads the team with 21 homeruns and 62 RBIs.

One thing that has become obvious; When you have a great season in Bronze, then crash and burn in the playoffs, your repeat year is going to let you post some great numbers. HOWEVER, the fear of blowing it again in the playoffs becomes a daily nightmare and with the season half gone.... you get the point.

I've accumulated 3113 PPs just as the month ended, so I'll be reporting on my card pack openings a bit later today.

Sometimes, (ok, most of the time) opening card packs brings you back to your childhood in a not so good way. How many times did you go down to the store and buy 3 packs with your hard earned money and get disappointed with a slew of players you couldn't use?

Well, that was today with me...

Yes, I have been lucky... I sometimes wonder where I would be if I hadn't pulled Trout and Bench...

July, 2029

July wasn't nearly as noteworthy as months past - but I've also been spoiled by this team. The Hawks posted a 16-8 month (including a 5 game losing streak) and lead the division by 9 games.

Ben Zobrist leads the league with a .352 BA, Francisco Lindor leads the league with 28 HRs, 75 RBIs, and a 5.9 WAR. Kluber (16-4), Paxton (13-5), and Wynn (14-3) are potential 20-game winners, and Edwin Diaz has 35 Saves. And ten(10) players were chosen for the All-Star game.

I accumulated 3000+ PPs for the 2nd time this month, but the only card pulled worth something was a 2b Robinson Cano (84) duplicate.

I'm facing some stiffer competition this season with a 9 game lead instead of the 19 game lead from last year.

August, 2029

What a month! The Hawks posted a 23-4 and leads the East Division by 13.5 games.

That wasn't the BIG news however.

On August 25th, the Hawks won a game 28-4. In that game, they produced 16 hits, 19 walks (from 8 different opponent pitchers), Johhny Bench scored 6 runs and got 6 RBIs, and when the dust settled, the game won me 6,190 Perfect Points!

That does, however, put me in a dilemma. I was originally planning to take my next 3000 PPs and open 3 more player packs. With the season widing down, it's possible I could accumulate 12-15,000 PPs by the end of the playoffs - enough to possibly pick up a significant player in the Auction House. I won't know however, unless I keep the PPS and wait and see if the right player is there on Sunday. If not, then i guess I get to open up to 15 packs in a row

Well, I pulled the trigger.

I had the opportunity to pick up Jose Ramirez (2B) for 6000 PPs to replace Roberto Cano. This raised my 2B position from 84 to 97 plus added Ramirez speed. A shift in left field also puts Max Muncy there in place of Ben Zobrist, who will backup LF, RF, SS, and 2B - effectively playing full time anyway.

The reality was either pick a Diamond player I knew I could use, or pull 36 player cards and likely not get a Diamond Level player anyway.

Here's my depth chart...

Final; 117-45/.722

The last month of the season was not good for the Hawks, as they posted a 16-13 record, facing potential playoff contenders 10 times during the stretch. Fears of last year return when the Hawks posted a 116-46 season and lost in the Division Series of the playoffs, losing our chance at promotion.

We're going into this year a stronger team, but also facing tougher competition. I hope this time we can put together some magic

Playoffs, 2029, AAUGH!

Either the "Gods of Chaos" have been let loose, or maybe the "Faceless Men of Bravos" are at work here, but the Oakridge Hawks, after a two season run of 233 wins and 91 losses, got crushed in the Division Series (1-3), this time by the Stinson Beach Seagulls - yet another wildcard team. It appears the Hawks will remain in the Bronze Level for 2030.

Yeah, I'm in a funk. That's twice we should have moved up to Silver, and twice we failed. Both times the guys forgot they commanded the division all season. Sigh.

Well, all I can do is try again, so we'll see if I can somehow make the team stronger for Year III Bronze, and hope the crowds and fanfare of playoff games doesn't get to them a 3rd time.
