League Reputation
Does anyone know exactly what league reputation does as a feature?
Obviously if you have international or independent league operating, you would think it differentiates quality of baseball amongst the different leagues. My question is" doesn't PCM's already do this? Is this a redundant feature?...do they work together as a tandem? These are things people need to know, and I have never seen any sort of explanation on something like this, as there is nothing in the manual or the forums about it. |

I believe it controls how free agents view those leagues. If a player gets contract offers from 2 different teams, and one is in a league with a reputation of 10, and the other league is an 8, he'd rather play for the 10.
What I've never been clear on is if the amount of difference between the 2 numbers matters. For instance, if there's 2 leagues and the top one is a 10, does it make any difference if the lower league is a 9 or if it's a 5? |

...hmm perhaps each league reputation number should be affiliated by certain PCMs by default?

I don't think it has anything to do with PCMs, only that players would obviously rather play in a league with a better rep.
I tested it by creating 2 fictional leagues with identical settings except setting 1 league (B) to the lowest reputation. I checked the rest of the settings and I couldn't find anything else different. I then simmed to ST and the only difference I could see were the financials, but I did not find the differences significant. Interestingly enough, the avg team revenue was higher in the worse rep league while, as expected, the budget was lower as expected. But neither was too out there. The worse rep league had about 33% more non-player expenses though! Maybe the game is trying to make it so their profits are about the same, which they were close (A=-8.5M, B=-10.3M). All the other financial sections were exactly equal. The PCMs were exactly the same.

League reputation has nothing to do with PCMs. It's function is to give fictional leagues a mechanism to influence which leagues players view as the most desirable to play in. It's especially useful for promotion/relegation leagues.
Some things that Markus has clarified in the past: - In pro/rel leagues, give the highest league "10" and the lowest league a low number like "3" and put the rest in between. - When evaluating the value of a contract from a lower reputation league vs a higher one, reputation is a part of the equation which includes other things like greed and player nationality - The 1 to 10 scale is linear - The quality of a league (player ratings) does not trump league reputation

Another thing I found is that players will prefer major leagues in their home country. Also, desire for a winner is somehow also used in combination with league reputation. I'm guessing that this means a player with a high desire for winner will want to essentially win in the highest reputation league, so he might value money from a lower rep league a little less.
