Tie-breaking games for playoff seeding?

Hey y'all.

Quick question: I have a league with 8 teams in it. The top two teams play a championship series. Real simple format. Currently, I have the "break ties with tiebreaker games" option checked. If the season ends with a tie for first or second place, a tie-breaker game is played. Is it possible to only have the tie-breaker played for a tie for second place - i.e. only when a tie affects which team makes the playoffs? I think that this is how MLB did tie-breakers during the one-wildcard era, so it seems like it should be possible.

I just had two teams finish level for first place. They then played a game to decide who would get home-field advantage in the championship series. It seems like this should be decided by whatever tie-break options the game uses. (Sidenote: which should probably be customizable as well) Please tell me that this type of extra game can be disabled without losing the tie-breaker in the scenario when two teams are tied for one playoff spot.

Any help would be appreciated,

Jamie.

As far as I know - someone correct me if I'm wrong - there's no way to do that. You either have the option on or off. However, it's pretty easy to fix it up yourself. Either leave the tiebreak option on and delete the tiebreaking game if you don't need it, or leave it off and schedule a tiebreaker yourself if the situation arises. In the older versions before this option was implemented, I used to schedule my own tiebreakers every year. Just make sure it's in as a regular season game and the game will adjust to incorporate it.

Is it listed as "division winner + WC" or "top two teams" in the playoff options? If the former, the game sometimes schedules an unnecessary playoff.

I almost always just delete whatever game generated tiebreakers get created by the AI and make my own because the game doesn't always put the right team hosting or when it's complicated and you have several teams that need to play tiebreakers, it's easier to devise my own system than to let the computer do it by chance. The beauty of the game is, you can do it yourself pretty easily using the scheduler.
