can anyone point me to some good youtube playthrough?

I am brand new and really dont know what i am doing lol. I honestly don't know what to do first once I start a fictional leage after draft. Do I trade pick up free agents first? What is your order of gameplay? Thank you...

The top left section of the Manager's Office screen, Notes & Tasks, is a good place to start as it'll tell you of stuff you should be doing asap. And when the top menu buttons have little red rectangles in them you should probably check them for stuff that is new.

Other than that, it's a pretty open-ended game. I think most of us probably fall into habits of doing a set list of things that we do every day, week, month, whatever. Personally, I like playing God and interjecting here or there, but mostly I'll just watch things unfold. When I played in online leagues, however, after every sim (usually weekly) I'd have a list of things that I'd do every time (checking the waiver wire, the DL, FA, the trade block, etc) and another list of things I'd do at only certain times of the year (protecting for the rule 5, etc).

Yeah, it can be intimidating starting any video game that is wide open like OOTP is, but don't put too much pressure on yourself to do things perfect. Just putter around until you find something you like, focus on that part of the game, and in time you'll find yourself exploring other aspects of it as well.

Here's a video tutorial that looks pretty good. It's a few versions old so the screens won't be exactly the same, but they'll probably give you a good enough idea.

What he said. Just start. You'll flail around for a bit, and then it will all start to make sense and soon you will be an expert.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Thank you all for your replies. I hope it gets easier because as of right now this stuff looks like rocket science lol. Once I get a team I dont know what to look for or what my first order of business should be for example trade, free agency best way to set up a lineup etc. I know baseball but all the abbreviated stats holy cow!!! lmao. Thanks again...

One of the best things about OOTP is that you learn as you go, I learn new things almost every day. The immersion depth is incredible, but then again it is as much or as little as the individual wants; I have started new leagues because of what I have learned from the older leagues.
With the help and ideas from the people in these forums you can make league(s) any way you want with a little patience and time.

When I first played, I would fall into a habit of simming as much of a season as I could, as fast as I could. I would basically stop (by choice) for the June draft, the trade deadline, roster expansion, and the end of season/playoffs.

What I learned pretty quick is that rushing means you miss out on a great opportunity to really explore everything you can do in this game.

Once you have the initial set up of your game set to what you like (and you probably will not have it the way you want until you have done it a few times), I would recommend a methodical approach to the game.

Now, because I'm controlling a team that is in rebuild mode, I am basically simming only a game or two at a time, with my primary focus on scouting, player development, trading veterans for prospects, the draft, and my minor league system.

Best advice then? Do NOT get to emotionally attached to your first couple efforts at setting up your league, find the settings that work, and just pace yourself.
