Anyone know about professional pool?

Why are these guys purposefully trying to miss?

This is snooker. In short, Murphy is trying to miss and somehow forced Woolaston into an error, because there are not enough points left on the table for him to win the frame without Woolaston being charged an error.

Imagine if the objective in the game of basketball was to not score any points. How exciting!

I find that Cricket in the T20 format is exciting as baseball . We went to a world cup match on Long Island last year and had the time of our lives.

Ah, hoops. The game where the last 2:30 of an even just vaguely close game take 20 minutes.

As I wrote earlier, the objective is absolutely to score points. But the pink ball is worth 6 points and the black is worth 7. Even if Murphy pots both, he still loses this frame by one point. Hence the (not very good, admittedly) attempt to get Woollaston to trip over his own queue and be charged a penalty for some thing or other. In a perfect world he would be able to put the white and pink such that the black is in between them and Woollaston is forced to play it around the boards; hitting the black ball first with a shot is not allowed in this situation and would cost 7 penalty points.

Also, since the game is best-of-11 and Murphy is up 5-1 frames, actually succeeding would have won him the entire match.

Oh, I hear you on that. Between that and all the commercials, I just can't bother to watch an entire game anymore. I pretty much only watch the highlights of basketball games now. It's too bad because I really do like the game how Jokic plays it.

Yeah, yeah, I just don't care to be honest. I don't even know the rules. While I liked playing pool as a kid, I wasn't that good at it and lost interest (I know they're very different games, but they're similar enough in my mind). It reminds me a bit of late game chess where one person is clearly losing and the only thing they can really hope for is to trick their opponent into a stalemate. While I'm sure some people love the end game, I just don't. I say just concede the loss and move on to something more interesting.
