Injuries
Hey all,
I'm just wondering how many injuries come up when you're playing in a quick start game? I've been getting frustrated with injuries happening to star players every couple of days and having to make way too many roster adjustments involving the 40 man and 25 man roster. Is the rate of injuries adjustable? Can it be done while in the middle of a game, or does it have to be done at the start? EDIT: I did find where the injury rate can be adjusted. Although the "OOTP Classic" mode seems to have more injuries than reality -- and I'm afraid of what would happen if I were to raise it to the "High (Realistic Modern Day)". Has anyone played with these settings? What have you found? Last edited by mankle; 06-28-2011 at 10:33 PM. |

I use the realistic injury setting and find it, well, realistic. Just check the real-life disabled list. Teams tend to have about 5-6 players on the DL at any point in the season.
I haven't played with a quickstart lately and I'm not sure if you can adjust mid-season, but I would suggest dialing injuries down if you think they're too frequent. |

I turn injuries way down as I find the continual roster wrangling tedious as you say and I don't like losing premier players from the league for extended periods of time. If I want to manage a AAA team I will without having them at the ML level. |

Thanks guys. I did turn it down to "low" and find it much more playable. Again, it's about finding the balance between realism and playability.
A good example of my frustration was when I had lost 2 of my major league outfielders to injury, and then when I went to find call ups from the minors, my MiL outfielders on the 40 man roster were also injured! In any case, real life GMs get paid big money for their stress levels, and thankfully this game features a way to "dial it down" so that we don't have to pay for the same experience! |

I personally prefer "High/Realistic", but I also like the drama created by a sudden rash of injuries. I had a team in my dynasty last year who blew through their (kind of crappy) starter and then had pretty much zilch left to replace him. They tried a couple of guys who couldn't field the position worth a damn and 3 HORRIBLE hitters (read: "they hit like a pitcher" horrible), including an 18 year old kid who was only available because someone else had released him from their minor league roster.
Now, I play with probably a much smaller minor league system (only around 2 levels per team) than most folks, but that was still teh foony.

I play Realistic settings and swear at my monitor quite often, but like Syd said, it makes it interesting when your %^&*$ #1 starting Pitcher and your $%^&* stud outfielder get injured within a $%^&* few days of each other while your in the middle of a %^&*( pennant race....

For the years 1998-2011, the average number of players on the DL for each club on opening day was 2.86—or a total of 86 players for MLB as a whole on average. And that's just as of opening day.
