Salary Cap - How Does it Work?

Can anyone tell me how the salary cap works? I have set a salary cap of $125 million. I was able to offer contract extension that would put me over the cap.

For example, I offered extensions three players and they signed, putting my pojected team salary is at $141 million, which is over the cap. Also, I then went to offer another extension and I was told that this would put me over the salary cap, but my owner approves the deal.

So, what exactly is the point of a salary cap if you can sign extensions over the salary cap?

Thanks, Brian

There are different kinds of salary caps. What you're describing is like the NBA's soft cap. Ideally, OOTP would have all sorts of caps.

I understand it's a soft cap, but I think it's unclear as to what the rules are. Exactly, what is allowed and was is not allowed? When are team's permitted to go over the cap?
