Outrageous Demands.
I am in an online league in which we just hit free agency. however it seems that most of the free agents (even the terrible ones) are asking for 20 mil as a starting point... the commish assured us that this was normal, but i have not seen this in any other leagues or even offline leagues.. is it normal??
For example: Adam Kennedy hit .245 with 8 rbi in the regular season. he has a max loyalty(5/5) and wants 20 mil per season. Jerry Hairston Jr. hit .236 with 56 rbi. he has above avg loyalty, greed, intelligence and desire for winning. wants 22 mil. Adam Everett .264 40 rbi. 4/5 for loyalty and greed. wants 24 mil. i simmed the regular season on single player mode, and Hairston was asking for 1.2 mil at the start of FA in which he had a much better season. Can this be attributed to the "typical quality salary" limits in rules? or are these extremely high demands normal when on default settings? Thanks alot! |

Check how much money is available league wide. OOTP works on a supply and demand system. The more money available league wide, the more FA's will ask for.

sox -8 mil rays +20 mil orioles +5mil jays -9 mil cental only has 1 team over 10 mil, 2 in the red. west has 3/4 teams in the red. supply and demand must be backwards then.. mediocre players shouldnt ask for 20 mil when a majority of teams are in the red...needless to say, there isn't much money by owners, so why would backups be asking for the same price that an ace pitcher is asking for??? it has nothing to do with the price that is set for the "quality" of players? I'd say the commissioner did something crazy to the financial settings...

so is this a case of supply and demand and theres no solution for it? or is it because financial settings need to be adjusted. or the price of certain "quality" players in the rules section was raised? ...or?
There are multiple leagues within (international like mexico/nippon..etc) perhaps prices are inflated because their financials count towards the supply and demand of mlb? i cant think of why this is happening or how to fix it.. any suggestions would be great appreciated. thanks in advance! |

You can operate in the red and still have too much cash. If you have a operating loss of 60 million dollars but have 300 million in cash, you still have a huge amount of cash.

I understand, when i said that they are in the red, i meant that they have negative cash though. not their operating loss, their total cash is in the red. meaning they have no cash.

I can see where this situation presents a problem to you. I'm not denying that. But on the other hand, in an online league it should not be a show-stopper. If the players are demanding too much, intelligent human managers should just wait them out. They'll eventually sign to a reasonable deal if nobody offers them the money they're looking for. I can see how it could still throw things out of whack if no free agents sign till the season starts though.
