CanadianBL Now Using OOTPX, Has Openings

Update: The league is currently full. If you'd like to be notified about openings in the future, however, please feel free to PM me.

Full League Name (Initials): Canadian Baseball League (CBL)
Main URL: CBL Portal
Reports URL: BNN Home Page
Boards URL: CBL Index page
Commissioner(s) OOTP Forum Username(s): chrisj
OOTP Version: X
Game Needed: Required
Players: Fictional
# of Teams: 24
Export Deadlines Days And Times: 4 times a week, 10PM EST
League Time Per Sim: 1 week
First Season: 2002
Latest Season: 2032
Available Teams: none

In our 31st season the CBL has switched to OOTPX and we have a few openings we'd like to fill. We've just converted to OOTPX and we're still in the off-season, right before players file for free agency so we'll bidding on free agents in the coming days. For many this is probably the most exciting time of the year as it is when you can most easily improve your club so get in on the fun and apply today.

[I'll try to post write-up(s) for the other open teams here asap.]

Probably the biggest key to winning in the CBL is to not overpay for guys. You'll quickly notice that the best teams are pretty frugal when it comes to their finances and they often let some good players just walk away if they want too much. It can be awfully tempting to pay whatever a FA wants to bring him to your team, but it's also the quickest way to dig yourself a hole from which it may take seasons to dig yourself out of. Still, there are some FAs that are well worth whatever they want, like one of the best aces in the league, but many of the players will not only take your wallet, but much of your organization's future too if you let them. Play it smart, however, and you should do well.

To apply, just PM me. You might also want to rank your top 3 team preferences, if you have any. First come will probably get first pick, but if your pick ends up already taken then this will just speed up the process.

Don't miss your chance to join this league. I've been around for 24 seasons and it never gets dull!

We're almost done our roll call thread on our forum and so far a few managers have dropped out. We knew this was likely coming as we had discussed moving to OOTPX for a season or two now and a few people had already expressed disinterest in upgrading, but we're pushing on through. The improved injury system and other improvements are probably worth upgrading alone, but, and probably more importantly, if you want to keep a league full you usually have to update to the latest version. So here we are. I look forward to seeing what the newcomers can bring to the table!

Geeze what is it with Canadian Leagues having issues staffing their biggest cities? (Probably too obscure of a reference to the DoCBA days)

Anyways I recommenced folks to get in and have a look at this, especially you Canucks out there. I mean doesn't' almost everyone (other then me) love financials? And who doesnt' like being able to have actually be nearish to one of the cities in your league without needing a passport to do so? Or being able to say "eh" without giggles or the spellchecker bitching.

Moncton Aigles Bleus - someone please change their name
What, you don't like Blue Eagles en francias? Then I will help you with that. Moncton has an owner application from yours truly, and their name, and location, will be fixed very soon after.

It's good to have you back, cc!

And it's a good thing you posted when you did because I've just been going through the sticky PMing and emailing everyone so I anticipate a few teams to go soon.

About Moncton's name: I don't have anything against it being French (I have a great appreciation for most French things, especially French women) and I certainly liked the former member who named them that, I'm just not a fan of the name as:
-we already have an Eagles team
-I'm not a big fan of color+something names
-it just sounds weird.

Part of it, I guess, is that while it was very simple, I quite liked Moncton's former name the Monks. So for a number of reasons the change just wasn't among my favourite name changes.

Anyway, I know Chris would love to have you back so I'll remove Moncton from the available list. I'll see if I can find that getting started email and send it to you. Good luck!

The playoff-bound St. John's Explorers have just been taken. Montreal, Edmonton and Toronto are still left.

I just put up write-ups on the 3 remaining teams and a little blurb on what I think the biggest key to winning in the CBL is.

Toronto has just been taken so only Edmonton and Churchill are left.

We have 3 teams (Halifax, Hamilton and Medicine Hat) who have yet to reply to our roll call thread, but MH exported just a couple days ago so they're probably staying and while the other 2 haven't exported since late last month that may just be because they weren't in the running for a playoff spot. I'll ask them to tell us their plans.

Edmonton has just been taken so that leaves Churchill as the only definitely open team at the moment. Like I said, we might have a couple more openings, but I have two people who have said they want in the league, that they're just waiting to see how things shake out. So that only leaves, possibly one opening, but maybe none. As soon as I know more, I'll report back.

I've disabled our forum as I'm trying to find and plug the hole that some hacker has used to get into our site. I'll try my best to get it back up and clean as soon as possible, but it might be a few days. I realize this looks bad, but unfortunately this is just something that happens from time to time to sites that use forum and other software like we and many other online leagues use. We'll get it resolved one way or another.

Update: Our site is all back up. Everything was deleted and re-installed from scratch. One day delay in simming. No biggie.

We're now using OOTPX and people have settled into place with the musical chairs. Only 3 teams remain open: Hamilton, Churchill, and Edmonton. PM me and let me know which team you'd like.

Sorry to hijack your thread kq but did the DoCBA have a team called the Vancouver Ice Dogs in it ? Personally wasn't in the league but wrote a couple of articles for it, if it's the same league I'm thinking of it had the best articles of any league I've ever seen.

That it did.

SO when are you getting your duff in here so I can kick it all over the Dominion?

To be honest it's the only league I ever miss and I was never in it have to say the Edmonton Snow Trappers are looking very tempting.

Edmonton has been taken.

Sorry, ukhotstove. We'd certainly love to have you in the league running some team though. What exactly was it that interested you about Edmonton?

If it's that it was a DH team, so is Churchill. And I'd say Churchill is a perfect candidate for a move seeing as how Churchill is a very small community in northern Manitoba that would have no chance in real life of supporting a team. I could see it moving to Regina (Regina Bisons?) to have a more natural rivalry with Saskatoon. Regina, IIRC, was named after an English royal if that interests you.

Or if you liked that Edmonton is a fixer upper, you might be interested in Hamilton as it is in a similar situation.

Always thought it was amusing that the league had teams in Dawson City and CHurchill but not in Regina (which I didn't know. Thought they had a team)

Yup, between you and I pushing for it, we'll slowly replace most of the minor communities in the league with more major cities.

Then hopefully we can push through promotion/relegation with some expansion! :P

EDIT: I know Chris is kind of interested in expansion one day, but I've convinced myself that it'd work much much better with two tiers.
