Online league FTP server rental?

Hello all,

Having read the manual, I am hopelessly muddled about how to start an online league. I've been trying to host a game on my computer, but I confess it's hopeless... the ports don't work, I can't connect, etc. Do those of you who run online leagues rent FTP servers from somewhere, or do you host the game on your own computer?

Thanks. I'm just curious.

I think the vast majority of online leagues purchase professional services to host their online leagues. It might be possible to host it yourself though. I remember I used to host my own small ftp site off my computer, but I never tried hosting an online league off my own computer.

EDIT: When you sign up a new account your first post(s?) have to be "approved" so that's why your threads didn't show up at first. I approved them, but I didn't know which I liked better so I just merged them. If you prefer one over the other, I'll delete the other.

Kq is right. Although it's possible to host your league site on a computer of your own, leagues are almost always situated on third-party commercial webspace.

Thank you both. I've looked into finding some FTP sites, and I think I found a good one.

You usually need more then ftp hosting. You'd also need webhosting so you can export league reports for your GMs to view. And you'll almost always want to run some sort of web page and/or forum.

Ping f.montoya on these boards. His allsimbaseball site is outstanding. Check out the site, it is self explanatory.

If I were to run or consider running an online league that would be my first stop.
