Can we see the return of the "Exhibition Game" feature from OOTP6?
Just wondering, can the old Exhibition Game feature make a return in OOTP9?

That's a real good idea.

I'd like to see it back also - and, in this mode, I'd like to be able to have Minor League teams be able to play Major League teams.
Most of the players on my Triple A team are ready to play in the majors. It would be interesting to see how they do against established teams. |

Do you mean just click exhibition game option and be taken to the game or that you want exhibition games included? If it's the latter, that feature is already in the game. You just have to "schedule" them in the scheduel editor.
I agree there should be an easier way to just play a game without it being a league game or having to mess with the schedule editor. |

Yes, the old feature that was part of the series up to OOTP 6.5. You had the option to select "Exhibition Game", select two teams and play a one-off game that did not count for league purposes.
I would use that during quick lunch breaks or testing values for edited players in a historical league. It was a nice feature that allowed one to play a single, simple game of baseball over a coffee break without all the additional league-related stuff. |

Good idea. I used it as a test thing when I made changes to things.

Yep this is something I've been asking for since it was removed. Altering the schedule is a pain.

I just bought ver 8 and don't plan to get 9, I'll wait for 10. However, this feature would be enough for me to get ver 9. Click one button to play any two major league teams against each other. Just for fun.

Maybe Markus will hear our pleas.

Exhibitions and Tournaments would be great, especially given how broad our baseball universes can be!

My own preference is actually for the "real" exhibitions, as it presently exists. You can play any two teams against each other that you like, but then the pitchers aren't available for the league game the next day, or whatever. The stats are permanently recorded under the Exhibition tab. In other words, the games are treated the same as any other games that take place in that world, except that they don't count in standings. However, I understand why some folks would like the ability to do the instant, "imaginary" matchups, with no effect on the game world. |

For anyone who hasn't seen it, Retrosheet has compiled a list of such in-season exhibition games. It's under the Research section of the site. The list was posted on Feb. 11, 2008. The person who created the list found some 2,800 such in-season exhibition games over MLB's history. |

Why not offer it both ways? No effect, and with effect.

I'd like to see the ability to set up in-season exhibition games which "count" so to speak right in the schedule file. Add a column in the schedule file which designates what kind of game it is. For example, a "0" means a game which counts towards the standings of the leagues, and a "1" means an exhibition game which appears on the teams' schedules and matters in terms of player injury and fatigue, but does not count towards the standings.

Yes, it would be nice to have the ability to run a knock-out tournament through the course of the season [as most of the European soccer leagues do]. That would mean being able to set up games for the next round according to a draw being made of teams not yet eliminated. The great attraction of this is the fact that, in a one-off game, teams from lower down the league structure can sometimes surprise the richest, most successful clubs - as has happened this year in the English F.A.Cup. Naturally, if someone is injured in a game like that, it would affect whether or not they could play in their team's upcoming league games, but the stats should be kept separately.

Thanks LGO for the news about the exhibitions, I want to recreate these in my next historical league!
I agree that a "one-off, quick play exhibition" feature should be included. I'd also like to see stats/records from exhibition games that do count towards fatigue/injury but not towards the league standings/stats be kept permanently. Spark240, if I recall, these stats are only kept for the current season? I can't remember if that is true as well for spring training stats.

good ideas guys.
Those of us in chicago remember that before interleague play, one of the awesomest things was the cubs vs the sox exhibition game every year. I'd like to be able to schedule exhibition games as well. I wouldnt play them out, id still sim them, not that it matters.

Yeah, I remember some teams played a city series after the season, a "who is best in town" sort of deal. I don't see those on Retrosheet, however.
I guess that's offseason exhibition.
