Campaign for Regional Designation during League Creation

I know that currently, when creating a league, we can only designate what nation they are from. What I'd like to be able to do is break it down even more (or at least have the option to) into regions of a country.

Example: We could create a minor league (which tend to be more regional) called Southeastern League and we could designate the region for the creation of the league to be, you guessed it, Southeast US. Then when the league is created the cities it chooses from are only those designated SE in the cities data file (along with the particular size of the cities depending on the level of league - like it's already done).

This would make it so much easier to quickly create regional leagues (especially for those of us that haven't a clue about those particular regions but would still like a league there). I'm sure the data for this option would be 'easy' to add (

).

I will not stand for a 'no' on something that I want... I'm kind of sick like that.

I'm no programmer, nor do I have the time to edit the data to make this option available, but I would really like to see it. So the campaign begins. :drum roll:

I'll join the campaign for this excellent idea!

When I create minor leagues for a fictional league I always want to do this but never have the time/interest to micromanage the team creation.

Yes, someone mentioned the Cape Cod League as a good example. I'm also wondering about those feeder HS and college leagues, what they're going to look like without a regional setting.

Two points here: First, what do you mean 'size of cities depending on level of league _ LIKE IT'S ALREADY DONE'? In 2006 I get low level teams in million+ cities (which is certainly realistic) and cities I've never heard of for major league clubs.

Second, who's going to determine which cities belong in which region? Or how many regions there are? SouthEAST? If you're going to be as specific as southeast, then is New York in the northeast, Atlantic, mid-Atlantic or just where? Is Washington in the Pacific Coast or the northwest? And you want a German guy to figure this out?

I would think it SHOULD be fairly easy to sort by state name, since the list already differentiates between (example) Springfield Missouri, Springfield Illinois and Springfield Massachusetts.

Not a programmer either but IMHO this seems like something that would not be worth the time to implement compared to the use it would get by the total user base. Seems to me if someone wants this in their game they can do it on their own.

Curtis makes a good point on who decides how many regions and what about the overlap? Where does it end? Does Markus make regions for every country or is this feature only available in the USA?

While the idea sounds good at first glance IMHO it will make more of a mess then help players set up their leagues.

On the other hand, many nations have states (Germany, for instance), provinces, departments, etc. that their cities could be fairly easily split into.

That's what I was thinking when I read your first post. Cape Cod League could draw from just Mass or Mass, Ct, Maine, NH, RI as a setting in the league creation wizard. Southeast could also be by certain states.

Is this what you were looking for the United States? U.S. Regional Mod

Simply uses the regions as developed by the U.S. Census Brueau.

3 U.S. regions North (which is a combination of the Northeast and Midwest regions to match the geographic area of the original NL/AL teams), South and West.

I didn't break down the regions into the sub-regions though (i.e. Southeast and Southwest).

I have the files that I used to create the cities and nations file and I'm planning to re-release the files for OOTP 2007 if the data-base structure has changes.

I think something like this is adequately provided by our community's fine members like Markmeister and Kelric (States as Nations mod). Although this customization is not out-of-the-box or necessarily intuitive to/for the average user, it is available and it works. Thanks again Mark.

While this may be something that is "fairly simple", it is something that would seem to me to be rather time consuming. I stand with those who think this might be a better idea as a community mod.

When I created my Canadian league, it took me just a few minutes more to rearrange all of the team cities into regionally aligned divisions.
