Mystery Solved...Cuss-Indianapolis Rounders...

http://members.shaw.ca/pyuana/indianapolis-rounders.jpg

I understand that my entry this week was not very popular especially when most of the people don't even see what the logo is. Well as I've mentioned before, I would like to try something new every week so that I can maybe learn something new each time. I learned this in archaeology, that sometimes we need to think outside of the box to discover something new or else we would just be inside of the box and learn the things that we already know.

Anyways, I tried to be more abstract this week and discovered that I have been too abstract with my design, and it turned out to be a big miss. Even though I was very happy with my execution with this design, everything seemed to flow nicely, but still, people do not like it if the message is not clearly presented to the viewers, EVEN if the piece itself may be nice aesthetically. This does make sence, since a logo is not entirely an artwork, it is also the face and representation of a team, and it has to be able to convey the neccessary information or else it loses its major function as being a logo.

My logo this week was suppose to feature a racer helmet being stretched out to give a hint of speed. Also note the hidden R at the end of the helmet on the secondary logo. Hopefully I have learned from my mistake this week, but don't count me out to trying something new again in the future.

yOU STILL beat lgo by one vote, or is that fastlane. For some reason I get their work confused. I think the one I voted for was fastlane which was I believe #5. (the black and white one with the old school I.)

I liked it, but not being able to be sure what it was made me feel a little dumb which turned me off by it a bit. At first I really thought it was a baseball with stitching at the top and strange wide stitching at the left. Then I thought it was a helmet too. I finally really started liking it once disposableheroes mentioned how the visor looked like a bat and I still thought the top was like baseball stitching so it was a helmet, baseball and a bat! That said, I think I agree. A logo probably should be somewhat obvious, but after you get the obvious out there you can put in much less obvious aspects too. Red for racing was a good choice I thought, but maybe adding another color somewhere would have made it a bit more obvious.

The red things on the top of the helmet had multiple meanings, firstly is of course the markings on top of the helmet, but secondly, I wanted to give it a hint of baseball in the logo, hence the stitching from a baseball. And lastly I aligned it to look almost like a tire track. I knew right then that it didn't come out right, but I was hoping maybe somebody would at least get one of those meanings.
