Can anyone who has this game comment on it from the perspective of the solo simmer who loves almanacs and record books and the like. Thank you.

its a pretty decent game. I think it really compares with OOTP6.. Works better in the fictional world however...

I've read great things about its support.

I like it. It does a lot of things well, but at the same time it can be difficult to adjust to, particularly the interface. I imagine that is largely because I am use to OOTP though. Its stats-keeping is pretty good. I love its showing of where the ball is hit though and if your big thing is watching games play out then I'd say PureSim might be a good bet for you. I think it's actually pretty close to giving OOTP a legitimate run for its money, at least for solo play. I'm pleased to see the progress Shaun has been making with it, everyone can benefit from some strong competition.

Give the 7 day trial a go, you might really like it.

Oh, sorry. I think of online leagues or multiplayer as a feature, not as support. No, I don't believe it does yet. I did read that Shaun was considering it though, perhaps as an add-on.

Puresim

I downloaded the demo when Puresim was released, but it ran extremely slow on my computer, compared to OOTP6. I liked the gameplay fine and might give it another try when I get a newer computer ... some day.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that it does NOT support career, year to year play.

Also, it is a recreation of a season, and does not have a player draft.

These are both show-stoppers in my book, no matter how accurate the sim.

Easy mistake. I ment to have a league in between Online and Support, so my fault really.

You are wrong. It has career play, amateur draft, the ability to import Lehman, HOF, etc. Basically, all the things OOTP has, at least in this regard. And its almanac, from what I've seen, is more robust than OOTP's. You were thinking of another game.

PureSim can now import custom schedule files designed for OOTP6 (available via the options dialog).

ahah

Can anyone tell me which of these is better for historical leagues? I generally like replaying all of baseball history, and I'm pretty committed to OOTP for the present. However, if I'm not happy with the SI version of OOTP and its historical support I may consider switching if PureSim is good with historicals.

Actually Puresim is a career game, in some ways it is better than OOTP5 but I made the switch to OOTP6 and am more comfortable with it. I have not tried Puresim since the 2003 game.

I like the fact that Puresim fixes bugs quicker andthat the creator puts out many patches throughout the year and some of the patches add features as well...

Overall both OOTP and Puresim are good games. If you are happy with OOTP you will enjoy Puresim also...but puresim does not have as many 3rd party utilities as OOTP and that is why I mainly play OOTP (mainly because of CATOBASE)
