Question for all Commissioners

What do most commissioners use to send out there html reports for their online league? Do they use the in game FTP program? If so, is it any better/worse then an independent FTP program?

Personally, I use a batch file to create zip files for all html reports and bosi and league file. I use cuteftp to upload, then I unzip the files when they get to my server [not the league file though]. Cuts down upload time by 90-95%.

That takes forever. I zip the generated files, and upload them with CuteFTP then unzip them on the server.

I was constantly getting errors using the built-in FTP -- I think that if any one report didn't upload correctly, the whole thing would fail. So I now use WS_FTP. I don't bother with the zipping process others have described (other than for the league file), because the upload time doesn't really bother me -- I just write a news article or something while the files are uploading.

WS_FTP

It's easy and free for the first 30 days.

I zip the league files for upload.

If you are on the official server all files that are named _xxx.zip (xxx is the three letters that your league goes by on the official server) will be unzipped every 15 mins and the zip files deleted.

I do that for the htmls...

The in-game ftp client, while convenient, is slower than many third-party programs.

Also, using the ingame FTP makes it so you can't do anything else in the game for a long period of time while it is uploading.

I would like to unzip them on the server, but I just downloaded CuteFTP and for some reason I don't see the option to go forward with this.

Most of this can be done on the control panel for your server. Your best bet is to contact your server and tell them you have zipped files you want to uncompress server-side. Should be simple.

It's not a CuteFTP option. It's not an option in most FTP clients and it might not work even if you had a client that could do this. The reason why some people can do this is because they have something special to do it. For those who are on the official server it is done automatically. Those who are not need to find their own option if they want to do this.

Earlier today I sent a link to a page with a few options on how to do this to someone who is knowledgeable on whether they would be safe or not, but they're a bit busy at the moment and will look at it in time and hopefully get back to us. I don't want to say who so they are not badgered and I'm not going to give the link myself because I really don't know if they're safe and I don't think it would be wise to advertise something that might be risky. Until then, your best option is probably to do what gom said.

EDIT: Oh, and I use the in-game option. Sure, it takes longer, but it's less work than zipping up the files and ftping them through a client. I just let the game do it then go do dishes or something. I'd like the option of decompressing remotely though for those times when I want the files up asap.
