Something that sort off peaked my curiosit
Well, I was just kinda curious about players like Ichiro. He has an A rating at RF, a B rating at CF, and ... NO rating at LF?! the heck? If you could play RF couldn't you at LEAST play a little LF? heheh

Good question.
If you used Lahman's database or my 2004 update (which is like the '04 version of Lahman's) Most players are only rated at positions they played during that season. There is no question that Ichiro could play great defense at any of the OF positions. Just turn on the player editor and go at it!!! |

we had a good discussion awhile back relating to this in a way.
It was about should you give a gold glove to CF if they are the top three or do you divide it up and give the gold glove to the best at LF & Rf regardless if the 2nd best CF was better. |

I have to agree, if a player can play very well at a certain position then he should be able to play fairly well at similar and lesser positions. I'm hoping Markus tweaks this in OOTP6.

I wish they would also do it for infielders....SS can usually play 2B and 3B....3B can play 1B....2B can play SS and 3B. |

The way OOTP handles fielding is, by far, one of its biggest flaws. It always has been. A guy who can play CF should be able to play RF or LF. A SS shouldn't have too hard a time at SS or 3B. It doesn't make sense to have a guy who's a phenomenal SS not be able to play 3B at all.
There have been many discussions here about revisions to the way OOTP handles fielding. Basically, there needs to be some kind of IF rating, some kind of OF rating, possibly P and C ratings, and some kind of positional familiarity rating.
