Owner relations

I've got a few questions for you guys.

1) Have you ever had two owners in your league that just couldn't get along?
2) Have you ever had an owner threaten to quit, if another owner was not removed?
3) How did you handle the situation?

I've talked to a few commissioners and they've never had these problems. But I've had these on several occassions, this being the first time in this league I run now, but still I wonder if I'm doing something wrong that bring these problems to me.

Any input is appreciated.

I had this happen to me in a league I ran about a year ago. One owner did not like the other owner because of disputes they had had in another league about one guy always trying to lowball the other guy in trades.

The guy that was making the poor offers would e-mail me and tell me that the other guy wasn't replying to his trade offers and he thought he should be kicked out of the league.

All I did was I just simply e-mailed the other guy and explained that I understood how insulting some offers can be, but that most guys in these leagues don't really know each other personally so they are naturally going to try and work a deal to better benefit themselves. I then just told him that however rude the offer, all he had to do was reply back and say no thanks or something like that.

I guess he started replying and they got over it, because after that things calmed down quite a bit.

I would just advise you to find out the guy's problems with each other and try to find a solution, but if it s getting disruptive to the league then I suggest finding some new owners. It can't be such a huge deal that those guys can't be mature about it and work it out.

Just my opinion...

Tell them it's a fantasy baseball league, not a third-grade classroom.

With regards to the owners, if they just have a problem with each other, that's the sort of thing, IMO, they need to settle between themselves (and keep off the league forums).

The owner threatening to quit because of the second owner must not like the league very much if he's willing to let one person ruin it for him.

If, on the other hand, one of the two is disrupting the league for *everyone*, then that's the owner that needs a talking to and probably should be considered for expulsion.

NO one in the ABA likes the Ft. Worth owner.

They have all threatened to quit if Ft. Worth doesn't quit winning all the time.

I ignore them.

Thank goodness I have never seen this as a problem in any of my leagues.
I have seen very minor brief squabbles over misunderstandings. Luckily I seem to be surrounded by mature individuals in the leagues I play in.

You have no idea how many times a day I hear that.

It's like a full-time job just keeping them in the league. What with your 78 championships and all.

What the hell are you talking about? Thats crazy talk! USBA? Hah! Oh and hey, I don't like the owners of Alaska, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, Hawaii, Memphis, Richmond, Houston, New Orleans, Wichita, and Fort Wayne. While that list may look strange since it is ALL the teams that have better records than me, if you don't kick them out, I quit. Oh, and New York too because he's tied with me. I mean because I don't like him either.

Yeah, and then there is that owner who keeps trading me his injured players!

Hey Boston, we all know about your dirty tricks. Markus Heenan out for the year and Luis Soto out for five weeks. Seems both guys you traded ended up on the DL long term! I've taught you well young Jedi.

I find myself in that situation sometimes as a GM and sometimes I don't want to reply back right away. Sometimes I just feel as though I need to think about it longer to decide whether it's an ok deal. But then there's those times when it's difficult to reply back with "no" when experience has shown you that that GM might keep sending you offer after offer. Some GMs are so awesome at trade talks that there's no uncomfortableness at all and they happen so fast (1 for me has been devaneyfan). And others it seems like you just can't agree on what makes a player valuable so they think they're giving you a good deal and think you're being difficult when you try to explain why you don't want their player.

Anyways, I can totally understand if someone might not want to respond, especially right when they get the offer, but I think all GMs should realize or be told that in the end it'll just be better for everyone, including themselves, if they do reply asap. Even something as short as "sorry, no thanks", or "give me a day to think about it", it's better than nothing.

kq76, I agree with you. I can understand not wanting to respond but it does just save a bit of hassle if we all do.

I have found myself not wanting to respond sometimes, but in the end I'll just send something like you said, with a "no thanks", etc in it.

It isn't too bad if the guy trying to lowball you is new or you haven't dealt with him before, that is sort of expected (lowball not meaning totally rip you off, just get the better bargain).

But if it is a guy that you have known for a while and always tries to convince you why you need his scrubs and he needs your all-stars, then that can get very irritating. Makes me wanna punch the computer sometimes.

I don't like that Memphis team either. They should definately get to move to a division with less competition(Maybe the Freedom League). Also their logo is scary looking. I'd rather have a baseball with a hat on for a logo because it's more marketable. Much love for the Pilgrims.

Forget trading for injured players from Brad, I add a pitcher from his staff and my bullpen goes to crap. I wish the "cancer" would just get injured instead of taking my pitching staff down.

OH I agree with AJ pretty much on the subject. If someone wants to make a threat to quit, I'd let them quit. Especially if no other owners have made similar comments about the team. Who doesn't lowball on offers sometimes?

I don't get along with an owner in one of my leagues. It's great fun. Can you get that type of enjoyment playing a solo league at home? No way :-)
