Low offense in Career mode II
A couple days ago I posted a thread about offensive declines in career mode.
http://www.400softwarestudios.com/bo...threadid=37708 I decided to sim another 40 years (63 total)and noticed a couple things. *Only 12 different times has a player hit more than 50 homers in a seasons. *4 computer generated players have reached 500 homeruns. The highest is 523. The other three didn't get above 507. *Pitchers with ERA's in the 1's are present nearly every year. My question......how would I go about raising offense a little bit? I am thinking about raising the offense about 2% for the next couple years. Does anybody have suggestions or advice? Thanks. Below are the updated graphs. |

Decrease the number of hits and homeruns slightly in the league totals, this should increase the offense.

Steve,
Does this often happen that over a number of years #s will trend down or up by a significant amount, without touching the league totals, or is this an anomaly?

I have seen seasons where offense dominated as well. I guess when you compare 100 different leagues with 100 years of history, you will see a nice variation of pitching dominated leagues and well as hitting dominated leagues.

I have seen peaks and valleys in both pitching and hitting, I have not noticed this personally. Plus, if I'm not mistaken the above was begun with a "user created" roster set which may have something to do with the results. Most of my testing has been using "game created fictional" leagues.

I have seen a decrease in one year and then an increase the next. I had a player who hit .310 52 141 one year and then the next bat .280 21 101 and then .301 41 99 the third with his batting ratings remaining near the same for HR's. You don't see it that often when a player drops 30+ homers one season then go back up the next. This seems to be a common theme throughout my career league for players still in their "prime" of their careers.

I think if you are using that function where it will adjust era settings for you after each year it has a tendency to lean in one direction or the other. If you started out getting a slight bit more offense than the ratings were set to then when you adjust, they tend to adjust in that direction, and vice versa, until finally you have a real trend on your hands.
I like to tweak my era settings manually every now and then for variety's sake.

I have never touched the settings, because I'm afraid I will make some huge mistake. The worst would be to have 10+ hitters with more than 60 homers in a year.
BTW, I simmed another 15 seasons last night and noticed quite an offensive upswing. The league avg in the last season was .261, and league era was around 4.3. |

Try 25 point increases/decreases in your HR total and then sim test seasons. That worked well for me to increase/decrease the top HR hitter by 2 or 3 HR a season until I was happy with it. I, too, don't like bloated stats, and prefer instead to have 50+ HR seasons be very rare.

I'll be the first to admit I don't really udnerstand the era settings, but my explanation is just from what I've seen. When I redo the recalculate function it seems to subtley perpetuate trends like you are experiencing. That's why I like to just put random tweaks into the settings for more variety. I wish I understood the settings more, but just struggle along like everyone else.

I have test simmed literally hundreds of seasons using entirely game generated fictional players with no changes to the era and league settings.
As Markus mentioned above, there is a nice mix in pitching and hitting dominated eras.

Thanks TigerFan. Heh, out of the three of you (incl. MH and SK), you're the only one I fully understood.
