Stadiums in Fictional League
I’m playing a fictional league on my iPad now and about halfway through season two. My 32 team setup (2 leagues, 4 divisions of 4 teams each) has only one team nickname that matches a current major league nickname, and every game so far has been played in the generic stadium except trips to that one team, where we play at Kaufman stadium (which will tell you what that team’s nickname is). I tried temporarily changing the nicknames for my team and a few others to MLB nicknames to see if I could get more stadium variety, but nothing has worked so far. Is there some point in the annual cycle where it might? Or some workaround to assign new ballparks to each team? Variety is a good thing, if it can be done.

I can report that having completed a season, I simply started another identical league from scratch *, giving almost all of the teams a nickname from MLB, then, following the initial league draft, giving each team in my fictional league the nicknames I had originally given them. Looking over the opening day highlights, this worked as I got a bunch of different stadiums as I looked through them. The team pages have the full list of 30 MLB stadiums and the generic one that a few teams are using. I’ll play through this season and see if I can figure out when in the offseason (if ever) GO looks at the team nicknames and reassigns them. But certainly much easier would be to be able to enter some code from a list in the documentation that specifies a home stadium that is included in GO.
* It is a credit to the designers that starting a fictional league takes so little time. If you have a text file of the division names and the team names, you can enter them quite quickly in the setup screen: I did a 32 team league in about half an hour on an iPad and a connected external keyboard. So is that the deal now, if a stadium has opened it will show up? Do you do anything to get it or that is automatic?

I started this particular fictional league in 2001, so I think I got all the parks. Visited the team playing in PNC Park today and when the sun went down it looked like the whole downtown was in a power outage, lots of dark skyscrapers behind the bridge….
The field variety is a nice touch but I have hit a few homeruns into the stands that were actually doubles. The iOS version on my big iPad seems a bit out of synch in a few areas: one thing that happens most every game is the popup to the infield, camera eventually switching to the infielder that will make the catch (making me wonder why the outfielders came together in shallow center field for a popup near the mound….), and the ball always comes down slightly behind him, but some microburst wind gust moves the ball into his glove at the right moment. ![]() |
