How Many Of Us Use Other People's Quickstarts?

fredbeene posted that there's not really a community sharing quickstarts and I wondered, how many of us even use other people's quickstarts?

I've never really thought someone would want to play the fictional leagues I set up, but then again I do see that some people's leagues seem to be popular with others.

If people realized that there really are a fair amount of people who like to play other people's quickstarts then maybe more people will upload theirs.

I don't think the % breakdown in this poll is important. All that is important is to see that, yes, there are people out there, at least some, who like to play them. I just included the no so no one complains that it's not there.

If there's a reason why you would play with them don't, then please explain why below.

For those who don't even know what a quickstart is or how it's different from a template, see this post.

Well, we do have that up and coming Red Rock League of Dr Dynastic that will be coming out as a game included quick start. So yeah, This is a great question, especially with the exposure the Red Rock quick start is getting.

I love Quickstarts, and the handy work people put into making this game what it is - great!

Posted yesterday for advice on how to download a QS, but figured it out.

The only the game really needs to look at is the constant signing and releasing of players especially after the draft; this may be a glitch, but in fictional leagues, I see it a lot.

The game is great, because it gives you the flexibility to play it - your way!

Happy Gaming!

I would love to try out others' quickstarts, but most of the ones in the forums are super old ... there was a college one I wanted to try but it was apparently built for OOTP 21.

There used to be a template for this as well. Might of been back in OOTP16.

I had it but lost it

My problem is that I have a well-defined set of preferences as to settings, which are unlikely to align with those in a quickstart. So I would have to do a lot of tinkering to get where I wanted to be, thus defeating the purpose of the quickstart. But that's just me. I think the QuickStarts are a great idea.

The fact that the player history tab isn't saved in a quickstart has always killed the immersion for me.

IE I very badly want to import the UBL quickstart but I can't get past the fact Kevin Bays would lose everything on his personal history page.

I'm eagerly looking forward to a day this gets saved in a quickstart or we're able to edit it.

Lightbulb Modified database

Kind of an obvious continuation to initial question is if anyone has tried to build a Quickstart using modified database?

Canadian League? I can't remember the last version I actually played a Canadian League. It was probably OOTP6.5 or 8. No, sorry, I don't have it.

I just finished the first season of my Japan League and it had a pretty epic ending I just posted about. I could make a quickstart of it if someone wants it.

I'd give it a go

Cool where are they located? there is 'forum' here buried combined with other 'stuff'. I would love to share, but it is poorly organized. Steam would be great, but that is dead too. So where you hiding all the goods??!!!
where are all the mods???
pbp sharing???
view sharing??

YUP!!! unfortunately all the 'forums' are old and archaic.
Even photopacks are hard to come by

Workshops and mods are mostly non existent

In its place are bot posts on reddit twit etc.

The game is not designed or at least promoted to have mods and sharing (anymore)

I have my own Quick Starts I like and no one else has ever called for anything like them so I keep to myself.

The fact you can't easily bring up an old QS in the new version of the game frustrates me. To the extent I don't find the time to redo them in the new version.

My favorites are:

The Old Dominion Association -- old teams from Virginia with minor leagues named for local or historic business.

The New Model MLB -- starts in 1946 with 32 teams embracing the PCL and other cities later expanded into.

Italy 1946 -- Soldiers start up a league after WWII with lots of Americans, Canadians, English, French and Brazilians based on units in the land war in Italy. Over time, Italians start playing. Never got this work right/as I intended.

As a result of looking into this thread, I searched the mods forum and immediately found (OOTP 25) Daniel Saline's USBL Quickstart which looks pretty darned good.

What do you mean? Just import it like you would any past version.

The only quickstart I have ever used was Malleus Dei's (now there a name blast from the past) Texas League which I started in OOTP 6.5 and have kept it going in OOTP 25. Unfortunately, I no longer have the original file, but the game now has 28 years of history.

I love the USBL. I have already been playing a variation of it, didn't realize somone made a quickstart. I have the original 24 teams and added 6 to make it like modern MLB.

Oh, I really like this idea! I've for awhile wanted to start an Italian league, but the background to it hadn't come to me. The post-WW2 angle is great though!
