Why Is He DH?
In my 1901 universe I have a pitcher who is set as a DH. What could be making him different from every other starting pitcher in the league that he's not just set as a SP? He's second in his team's pitching rotation, so I don't know why he's being singled out. I'm tempted to set him to SP, but I don't want that to screw up anything with his playing.

2-way player ability, most likely.

I'm sure I have it enabled in the settings somewhere so that it comes into play when historically appropriate (unless the game doesn't know that is).

If he's listed as a DH but the league doesn't have that feature it sounds like an error that won't affect play.

I agree. He's definitely being used as a starting pitcher. I just want to be sure that nothing will get wacky if I force him into the SP role. The game may just change him back to DH anyway.

From an older manual. The game gives you the option to use it. Sounds like if you have it enabled, then your league will use it regardless of historical year. Some users like having the DH even if not historically accurate, and some hate it and will leave it off. In game it is listed under the rules tab.
Designated Hitter Rule If the Designated Hitter Rule box is selected, then the selected subleague will use the designated hitter rule. This rule allows teams to have a player other than the pitcher take a place in the batting order, resulting in greater offensive output. In leagues that use the designated hitter rule, pitchers do not bat.

Offensive output isn't greater. The LTMs hammer the league into historical output regardless of the talent in the batting order, "They don't know how the game works.". |

The game is drunk. The only way you can consider this guy a designated hitter is that he's designated to hit when his turn at bat comes during each game he's pitching, which means every player is a designated hitter. I'm just going to force him into an SP role and see what the game does. |

LTM is League Totals Modifier.
The short story is it runs tests on the league before the season and adjusts the output so that the totals at the end of the season for runs, SBs, HRs etc. are as close as possible to the historical totals. This means adding a DH to a league that historically didn't have one doesn't increase the league's offense. |
